| Hello everyone. Brent here to tell you that GDC 2007 has officially come to an end. I'm still technically on a trip, but the good news is that I'm back in Minneapolis waiting for retrieval at the airport. As you can tell from the podcast feed, it has been a busy week and it isn't over yet. Friday turned out to be the busiest and most productive day of GDC for Brenden and I. We recorded more about the presentations we attended Thursday and did another handful of interviews that will be showing up soon. Podcast 59, Day 5, is all edited and will be posted once I assemble it, which may not happen right away since I've been up for almost 24 hours now. There's nothing like a red eye flight to put the icing on a sweet trip. Following show 59 there will be at least one additional Game Developer's Conference show featuring in depth interviews with Cheyenne Mt Entertainment and Netdevil, as well as a long nerdy segment about the technology behind Eve Online. If you like to hear about how these amazing virgin worlds are built, you'll love the details I have regarding CCP's long and complicated MMO architecture process. The first GDC I attended was definitely a success, but honestly, all this content is a bonus in comparison with the time spent with the great game developers, press members and friends within the gaming industry. The MOG Army guys were there, Brenden was there, Lady Sinaea from Guildcast dropped by for dinner, The Ancient Gaming Noob visited the expo on Thursday, and CCP threw a party of epic proportions that will be remembered for a long time to come. My mail box and the comment section has been filling up with debates on the content and I've also seen more than a few very kind messages of appreciation for the daily shows. No doubt, the daily shows are hard to do, but as a game enthusiast who loves to hear daily accounts of gaming events, I know it was well worth the work. Just two short years ago I watched my podcast feed eagerly waiting for the GDC and E3 reports from podcasters like Gaming Steve (who I bumped into on Wednesday), and I'd admit it is a bit unreal to now be on the opposite end of that experience. Once again, I was blown away by the abundance of incredible people within the gaming industry. GDC is packed with so many smart, passionate, generous and cool people collected in a single space who take games very seriously, but still enjoy all the hard work....it is inspiring and energizing. Thank you for all the support. If it wasn't for all the readers and listeners, this would not have been possible. I am grateful and will continue to work hard on this 'little project' for you. GDC is over for now, but you'll be seeing plenty of material over the next few days. |
