Comments: 'Release date?' by howl Submitted on 2008-02-06 11:34:01 CST Anyone know when the patch is being released? A massive improvement over their current engine, the dated look made me stay away from AO.
'Later this year' by Sente Submitted on 2008-02-06 17:59:05 CST From what I have seen they are aiming for later part of this year.
'Wow' by zentr Submitted on 2008-02-08 12:34:33 CST Looks great! Was that on anyone's radar? Not mine, obviously. Maybe past and existing AO fans...though I'm not sure that is a large group.
'Very nice' by Isanox Submitted on 2008-02-11 16:20:17 CST As an ex-player, that upgrade is much needed.
Add that with a $5/mo fee and it beats a $60 game hands down.
'Incredible' by scytale2 Submitted on 2008-02-11 17:22:47 CST Seeing this updated Athen makes me really enthusiastic about going back. I hope they make a few gameplay and UI adjustments at the same time.
It's amazing this game is still around after its terrible start - it shows the quality of the offering.
'Was / Is it that good ?' by Dathmar Submitted on 2008-02-12 04:13:24 CST I have tried this a couple of times and never got very far beyond leaving the starter area...
'Why AO was good' by scytale2 Submitted on 2008-02-12 08:51:16 CST I think the issue with AO was that it catered for explorers perhaps more than any other game to date. The ambience and creativity of the place, the music, the shopping:), the hugely complex crafting, the interactivity between classes, so you could put on that slightly better piece of gear. New graphics will only make these aspects even more awe-inspiring.
There's nothing like AO still on the market. Shadowlands is just plain weird and exciting as a result. Defend your base from alien invasion is AO-unique. The PvP was never very good and I have no idea whether it is any better now, but it was certainly original. The classes were nowhere near balanced.
Clearly it doesn't appeal to all, but it covers a lot of ground which others don't bother with and it has created a completely unique world, which you will grow to love and be scared by, if you like to immerse yourself.
However, once more, what made it for me was a bunch of good friends who met and played almost every night and levelled together. That's the secret to an enjoyable game.
'Thanks Scytale2' by Dathmar Submitted on 2008-02-12 20:41:26 CST For the explaination.
Perhaps I'll give it another try - I do like the way the quests are written.
'TITLE' by Eli Submitted on 2008-02-13 12:57:07 CST Well I'll be going back to check it out obviously, but I think it's amusing that they would just update the graphics. The reason they don't have more players is the complexity. The game has the best POTENTIAL of my favorite MMOs, but ultimately, as it is now, it really only appeals to RPG nerds (like me).
