Brent and Darren slap together a quick, unstructured, informal show
before packing up and leaving for GDC 2008. These show notes are
equally unstructured. Enjoy.
'A great 'short' 50 mintue podcast guys!' by crazykinux Submitted on 2008-02-18 22:53:28 CST Hope you had fun today. Brent, I'm counting on you to bring us some juicy bits from the good Dr. EyjoG. If you can, make sure you ask when we're going to have the next quarterly economic report.
Cheers
'Crosspost from Darren's site ( sorry :) )' by RogueSlayer Submitted on 2008-02-19 00:15:27 CST Champions was a Marvel title and had a three year run (75 to 78). It featured Angel, Iceman, Black Widow, Hercules and Ghost Rider.
Cryptic nor Marvel have said that they broke their ties. Only that Marvel and Microsoft have left their partnership in MUO. A Marvel title could still be in the works. Also doing small stories lines one at a time, allows them to bring in other groups with expansions and other stand alone releases (such as COV was to COH) down the line allowing the MU to take shape over time.

'Champions.' by Dathmar Submitted on 2008-02-19 09:53:46 CST I thought the Champions Online MMO was going to be based on the Champions Roleplaying game - rather than a Marvel title..not that I played the table top game that is.
...but I could also be talking rubbish - which is quite possible.
Brent : If you see this - do me a favour - if you see the Spellborn people - ask them when they plan to release their game and why a year delay ?
Would be interesting to know because they are not saying anything when I have asked....in the ......erm FORUMs
Thanks
Guy
'You may be right Dathmar' by RogueSlayer Submitted on 2008-02-19 19:20:10 CST All I saw at the time of my posting was speculation that it could be the table top RPG. The Marvel title of the same name (Champions) just sprung into my mind based on their involvement with each other at one point. Again though, just speculation.
A little more looking around last night after my post above, and I found a quote regarding the game from the Hero website FAQ.
Though, the post says it was removed quickly until the official announcement. So, it could have been a fake but it does seem like the table top game is more likely the source of the MMO at this point. Will need to wait for the official word though.
'Great podcast' by Mashuguna Submitted on 2008-02-20 10:13:27 CST Thank you for over 100 shows. I love that you not only cover MMO news but have great insight to the business side of the industry. It is enlightening to hear your take on how revenue, ROI, partnerships, and all the standard corporate mechanisms impact the creative side of the MMOs we love.
Please keep em coming.
'Champions' by RFWarrior Submitted on 2008-02-20 12:13:43 CST Hero System V ("Champions") is an amazing table top RPG rule system. The system is totally skill based. The PC game "Freedom Force" sort of pulled off a implementation of this system. Character customization is top notch in Hero System. You can create certain disadvantages for your charter which will provide more skill points. For example: Imagine you wanted to add an ability to your character but didn't have enough points. You can give your character a 'disadvantage' (like walking with a limp or something) which will provide more skill points in other areas. There are no classes in Hero System, everything is totally skill based - Anyway, check it out sometime. Google Hero System if you're interested.
I know it's a long shot, but *if* Cryptic were able to pull of an MMO based on this system is could be freaking awesome.

'Champion Character Generation' by Scott Submitted on 2008-02-20 19:54:29 CST If anyone read or played with the GURPS system, that'd probably be a good comparison to the Champions system of distributing points IMO.
A perfect system for min-maxer's like myself. ;)
