'Atari has some good IP's' by Tron Submitted on 2008-12-22 21:41:33 CST This just made me wonder, will we soon be seeing Pong Online?
'Xbox live' by Marc Submitted on 2008-12-22 22:42:00 CST
I may actually give AOC a try when it makes out to xbox ................in 2012. By then, maybe the pvp portion of the game could be remotely balanced. Xbox live, talk about potentially the worst mmo community of all time. And with free for all pvp, this could get very interesting.
You mentioned you may be doing a little less editing, but it was not noticed.
'Just a few questions' by TranquilAbyss Submitted on 2008-12-23 00:01:03 CST Now I know that fan boys are annoying raving lunatics at times, but I still have a feeling that they have a right to be. MMOs that have IP's are made for the fans, right? or are they made for the average gamers? And is it right to drop part of the IP's lure to change or improve game play?
I feel pod casters have been getting hopeless when it comes to new MMOs. I agree with past Brent when he said, Warhammer has jumped the shark. The way I see it is other IPs jump the shark to make leveling, questing, and grinding instead of its own lure and possible unique game play.
Yes WAR was did less than expected. Look at what Warhammer "the lure" is and compare to Warhammer Online. Warhammer is a strategy game with a rich story line and constant reasons for battle. The game seems to restrict a lot of the story and battle certain parts in the game with single important point with rewards to fight over. The problem with this is Warhammer is like chess or checkers, or think of skill based games, where you do not play for a reward, but you play for fun and to improve your skill. What went worng with Warhammer is they took away that "just for fun" and made every part of it for a item or a level, a reward. this makes the game about getting to top level. And yet Orks have to be male and Dark Elfs should not have a priest.
Are we still wondering what happens when you replace lure and fan boy idealism with a MMO style and reward based system?
This became longer than I expected. :)
'SWG' by leeway86 Submitted on 2008-12-26 14:20:26 CST I think one of the reasons why they didnt do massive push making every one move over. Is the housing system. Which is a major part of alot of the community. There are a few places where only one house will fit out on an island on naboo or close to Mos Eisley for venders. They give people an option so they can chose to lose there housing oppertunities.

This is for Brent or who ever can tell me what the hell does "jumped the shark" mean? To me it sounds as if you are taking on more than you can deal with, but thats not the way I hear it being used every time. I did a fast retrace to see where you(Brent) had said this "jumped the shark" thing. I was thinking it was in a blog but din't see it. so could not say in what way you use it.
please help me out and tell me what it means.....it's driving me nutt's

'Jumped By The Shark' by Shalimar616 Submitted on 2008-12-31 14:26:54 CST This term basically means when the subject has reached a point where you know it is done or lost. It often refers to games, movies, or shows where people throw their hands up and walked away.
For example, the Jumped by the Shark moment for me for Star Trek the Next Generation was the introduction of Wesley -- a snotty nose brat that was better than the entire crew -- from then on I knew the show would suck!

'Jump the Shark....' by Beauturkey Submitted on 2008-12-31 14:38:33 CST
A) a term that does NOT need to become popular. Ugh! lol
B) Fonzie attempted to jump a shark in an episode of Happy Days. While he DID crash (sorry, spoiler alert from 30 years ago) he survived, and after the audience held their breath thinking he was dead, he came up to roaring applause.
In other words, you attempt something dangerous, barely make it out alive, but still get credit for doing it.
That is what it means. Any other definition, or bastardizing of the phrase like "Jumped by the Shark" can be done away by just saying "I got my ass handed to me."

'Oops...' by Beauturkey Submitted on 2008-12-31 14:41:39 CST My old memory remembers him crashing:

Either way, it is meant to refer to doing something CRAZY and surviving. WAR hasn't done anything crazy, they just made a boring game.

'I have been corrected by Leala...' by Beauturkey Submitted on 2008-12-31 14:52:51 CST ..she showed me a "wikipedia" (what is that strange device?) article, which, according to the "Internetz" is the official and truthful source of truth since truth was thruthy.
It said that "Jumping the Shark" means to attempt to do something stupid to get attention, basically.
That is the OLD definition. Mine is the truer, better one, and from now on we shall only use that.
It means to do something stupid (which applies to BOTH definitions, being that the series doing something stupid and Fonzie doing something stupid) to get attention.
Fonzie wanted attention, if not some strange.
The show wanted attention, as a last ditch effort....or some strange.
They both came out on top. If anyone denies that Happy Days was, and still is, a success, then I will throw my coffee on their lap.
That show, and Fonzie, has made millions, and has gone on to sell dvd's, VHS tapes, and I'm sure an album or something somewhere.
And Fonzie is still cool.
So, to sum up, I am right. Jumping the Shark means you did something dumb and came out on top. I have officially soken to the president of this official source of knowledge called "The Wiki" and he is changing the definition, right now.
And my comment about WAR is still true: they attempted to do something stupid )make a game to compete with any part of WoW's audience) and came out on top: they have well over several hundred thousand layers, minus me.

'When Did Your Favorite Show Jump the Shark?' by robg Submitted on 2009-01-01 02:46:23 CST Alik,
Here is a great site where people vote on when or if a TV show "jumped the shark."
http://jumptheshark.com/
For example, as Troy mentioned, Wesley Crusher has the second highest vote for when STNG jumped the shark.
'Station Cash' by Meaninglesscog Submitted on 2009-01-02 08:45:45 CST You guys kinda glossed over the drama involving the Station Cash (Smedbucks) issue. No mention at all of how it was released and how Smed has basically had to backtrack and admit that he has misspoken about RMT in EQ2.
If they are going to start letting people buy gear that is not fluff they need to stop charging the monthly fees to play the game.
'woot it worked' by AlikSteel Submitted on 2009-01-03 03:30:24 CST Man I have been trying to post for a few days now.
Thanks everyone for giving me the info I need.
I still don't like the saying" Jump the shark "
As far as the "SC" in eq2 goes, I don't mind it. It's my main game and every thing I have in the game I worked for. Now if thay do add thing into the game that lets people have better stuff just by buting it. Then it's there lost. I have fun playing the game by learning new area's and hanging out with my friends as we all level up togethere.
If some one wants to cheat them self out of gitting the most out of the game by buying the stuff, I don't see how that will make my gage bad.
As for as the monthly fee's goes, I like them. Yes I am old like that. just let me pay my $15 dollers and loot everything I need.
