If you’re going to the convention and mingle with the developer might as well promote yourself and your site. If you have some money to spare go get some business card with phone number, email address, and website address. Wear a T-Shirt if possible with your site name on it. Hand out business card to developers and get their card if possible. This will allow you to have have an open channel to them.
Asks tough questions but be polite about it. Don’t be like other game reporters that only kiss the developer ass. If possible take a lot of pictures. Bring a small easy to carry tape recorder to record all your questions and answers. Remember this is a job. You are not allowed to have fun there. Good luck.
2 Moons will be another failure. MMOG developers still don’t understand that to make a game successful it must be fun. Grinding is not fun and this will fail even if it is a free game.
It’s about time they have server transfer for CoH. The majority of their servers have no life in them. What they should have done is to merge the server but this is a good start tho.
BioWare is a good gaming company. They develop good single player games. However, this does not translate to a good MMOG. You should ask your question on why it takes so long to develop Hero Journey. It’s a tough question and one that should be asked.
Dark and Light should close shop right now. Save as much investor money as possible because this MMOG is DOA. The moron that released this game before it was fully developed should be fire.
Down time is evil. No one wants to sit for five minutes with a thumb up his ass.
Anything that is touched by SEO even if it is good it probably won’t be successful. Too much hate on this company.
LotR is WoW jr. They won’t get millions of players. Not going to happen.
I think Matt is right on the spot. MUD is for geeks and still is. However, MMOG must be made for a wide range of players. I like the KISS system. WoW did the KISS system and is laughing all the way to the bank.
'Comments 2' by jdun Submitted on 2006-08-14 17:28:32 CST Vanguard biggest mistake right now is that it does not know which direction they want the game to go. Do they want to be PvE or PvP. While you can have PvP primary and PvE secondary you cannot have PvE primary and PvP secondary. The reason for this it is very hard to balance PvP if the game that is primary PvE. PvP secondary will ruin the PvE contents as seen in many MMOG that had done this. However, if PvP is the primary then it very easy to balance PvE contents. In other words if the game is based on PvP then you can have PvE added in but if it based on PvE then it’s best not to put PvP in.
Gaming addiction is a problem, online or off-line. Regulation won’t change the fact that people will get addicted to games. People can get addicted to anything, like collecting rocks as a hobby, playing a sport, etc. That’s just the facts of life.
I didn’t play Eva but I can tell you Auto Assault has been written off by NCSoft. NCSoft company report didn’t list AA, instead they labeled AA as other. This game won’t last long. It is just a bad game. People expected Car Wars what they got was a very bad version of WoW in cars.
Great show. Look forward to future ones.

'No fun' by Brent Submitted on 2006-08-14 20:15:07 CST jdun, sounds like you hate MMOs? Care to tell us what you are playing at the moment?
'Quick buck' by Jarimor Submitted on 2006-08-15 18:22:12 CST Before I had a go at Hero Online for the review I wondered why people seemed to look down their noses at Korean ports.
I think the thing that stood out for me while researching was how sloppy some of the conversions are.
Legend of Ares, for example, even has truly mind-boggling translations of the original language. Sentences with nonsensical language choices and puzzling grammar to comical levels. If they can't even be bothered to proof-read these games correctly how can they be seen as anything but a way to make fast cash on the new WoW led market?
