'Bonus Mid-Week Podcast' by Saylah Submitted on 2006-09-14 12:30:28 CST Another great Podcast. I don't know what you do for a living Brent, but you this is what you SHOULD be getting pad to do. I'm really astounded how you went from, "well, I'd like to try podcasting," to having such a mature, content rich, entertaining and high quality show.
Between VW News and this show, it's how I know what's going on in the MMO universe. This combined with my favorite blogs simply put, completes my little MMO life. I'm definitely a fanboi - fangoi, or whatever. Brent, you complete me. LOLOL
'Wow' by Brent Submitted on 2006-09-14 16:55:26 CST Gee Saylah, I've seen some nice comments in the past few months, but that one takes the cake. Now I just have to wait until someone tells me: You had me at '...and this is the massively multiplayer gaming news...'
So many thanks for your support.
'Got Me Interested' by vcn3wb05 Submitted on 2006-09-14 20:52:04 CST Brent,
Great, great review, man. I love these mid-week podcasts, so keep them coming! After listening to your review at work, guess what I did? I came home, went to ryzom.com, and am now currently downloading it! Anyway, thanks for the insight, and I'm really looking forward to getting into this game.
'Nice show' by Azzurri Submitted on 2006-09-15 17:32:07 CST After listening to this episode I also decided to try it out. I'm Dl'ing the patch as I type this. I was wondering what Race did you pick? DO any of the Races have special power or faction powers?
'Good Review' by Wilhelm2451 Submitted on 2006-09-15 22:57:53 CST Like the other comments, I am now interested to take a look at Ryzom after hearing your review. Knowing about the glitches and difficulties in something in advance can innoculate you against the frustration to a certain extent, so thanks for covering that portion so well.
'Might be a great game...' by DWRoelands Submitted on 2006-09-16 05:43:24 CST ...but I'll never know. After the -excellent- podcast, I downloaded the client and set about creating a new account.
Account name limited to 8 characters? Okay.
I can't choose my own password? Um, okay.
I have to maintain TWO passwords? I suppose.
And then - I can't log into the game OR my account. Neither pssword works for either login. The best part? I can't even get chat support or post a message on the forums - because I can't log in.
I've sent an email to support, in the hopes that they can get me into the game, or at least into my account.
The 'cast got me excited about Ryzom, but so far the impression I'm getting is that these guys are a bunch of amateurs.
On a more positive note, I'm a new listener and I love the podcast. Great work!
'Update...' by DWRoelands Submitted on 2006-09-16 05:46:15 CST I can log into my account if I click "Edit My Account" from the launcher, but not from the website. I was then able to re-assert my game password and get going. Whatever.
Ryzom, here I come.
'Similar experience' by Brent Submitted on 2006-09-16 14:20:28 CST DW, I had a similar experience and I noted the weird 8 charcater limit on passwords as well, sort pissed me off, but I forgot to mention it. The processes surrounding this game's setup, from sing up luanch are definitely in need of some streamlining, no doubt about that.
'Great review, and a note on passwords' by jamela Submitted on 2006-09-18 13:43:01 CST What a comprehensive and enthralling review, Brent, great piece. I've been playing Ryzom for two years and I am inclined to agree with almost everything you said. I am still often enchanted just watching the world play out it's virtual life.
On passwords and logins, if I may clarify DW's point: you do not have to maintain two passwords, only the one to login to the game and the forums, which you choose yourself. You do have to maintain an email address so that Nevrax may email a secure account password to update your subscription when you choose to do so. So keep the original email they send you including that password, or request a new password when you need to configure your sub.
I was hacked off with the 8 character limit on login and password too but that's more an annoyance than a real issue.
