Awesome show...I like the long ones you guys do. Good content in there.

Brent, who sings that song at the end of the podcast?

Hi Brent - great show as always. Hmm, I didn't realize that I was snarling when I spoke of twinks. I had a twink in WOW so I'm not against them. It's just that the PVP ruleset in EQ2 does favor them a bit more than in WOW. In WOW there is nothing a person 5+ levels lower than me can acquire that will let them pwn me. By having a system that allows that, it creates a gear dependant game, which will center mostly around grinding for gear. I'm not a big fan of that scenario. I prefer that the power be in the talent spec. Talents are accessible to everyone in the class and it's more about your strategy for acquiring and using your talents. In this scenario, I don't have to grind anything for my class to be effective. Gear and weapons enchance the class - not make or break the class. IMO, this provides an encounter that is more about skill and strategy versus who has on the best stuff. In gear dependant challenges, many people have already lost before the encounter even begins. So not saying it's bad, just not my preference.

Another aspect of the PVP is that the success experienced by the pwnage brothers is based on group play. They are pwning in packs which isn't necessarily the day-to-day experience of most players. You go out to harvest and you're probably alone. You go to turn in a quest and you might be with a buddy, but often times not. I know that PVP groups can work, but we also need strategies for surviving day-to-day, as that's where the rest of the game is played. :-)

I'm still chugging along and dying a little less frequently now that I just stop and fight. Don't mez and flee. Don't worry about their gear. Just stand and fight back. This has worked out much better and I'm starting to get tokens. Don't know what to do with them yet but I have them. :-)

The inability to attack issue happened again this weekend. All the times it's happened I was grouped with someone lower and they got attacked yet I wasn't able to attack too. We were out on a guild run together and couldn't help lowbies that were getting attacked, until our Druid realized that she could at least heal them. LOL Sad that we had to or were able to, but when in Rome...

Guild Wars isnt an MMO. Its a 3d Chat connected to group instances. Say it again Guild Wars isnt an MMO, its not. Not any more than BF2, BF2142, Diablo 2. Sure its innovative in play style and match making but its not an MMO, for one thing you cant group with more than a few people, and its all bloody instanced... DDO is in the exact same camp...not a real MMO.

How can you possibly be surprised by seeing WoW at the top of all the voting? Its the most played. You guys...its the READERS CHOICE AWARDS not the MMORPG.COM awards. People didnt vote for the other games because they simply arent playing them to the degree that they are playing Wow. Im not a big WoW fan, but given its popularity how can anyone expect it not to win?

And puuuuhlease, CoH has good PVE??? Good lord, its even more repetitive and uninspired as bloody Archlord. CoH has way better world physics, so that gets high props for me, but the game play...is stale.

BTW Eve is a very PVE game, especially if you stay in high security space (as do most of the people and nearly all noobs). PVP is in all actuallity a very small part of Eve, sure you hear about it alot but its not like everyone or even a significant majority of players do it on a daily basis. Hell, I played it on a couple different occasions and never had one single PVP encounter, probably played a total of a couple months, one toon to 1million ish SPs.

Oh, so you're the idiot who voted EVE for best PVE of 2006. Duly noted.

Buying a Wii will help you get rid of some of that aggression Brenden.

Well his argument kinda counters itself and at a basic level.

His complaint is that he shouldn't have to suffer cause he cant spend the time to play as much. That trading money is as harmless as giving his buddy 5 bucks for a few gold.

However, buy paying for the gold, which is more then a few gold and paying more then 5 bucks, your feeding the gold farmers that camp zones and keep people that want to play the game from playing. You are creating the same scenario where you cause people to suffer cause they dont have the money to pay these farmers, where his is that he doesnt have the time. These people have to make money in a now unbalanced economy cause someone is farming up gold and instead of haggling for prices and knowing how much that gold is really worth whih is based off the difficulty in attaining it, they just pay whatever people ask and in turn cause a person that has to farm it themselves to have tp spend even more time farming.

So its not a victim less crime, its a self perpetuating cycle originating from the idea that we should all be equal. While i feel the pain of the gentlemen who did the segment,we are not all equal. To me the argument is equal to a statement saying that a man in a wheel chair should be able to climb stairs as a man that isnt. We are all handed a different deck of cards and if you do anything to cause hardship to anyone else for your own selfish reasons, then your in the wrong, by my book anyway.

Anyway, thats my 2 cents.

Ahh I hate the dispute over whether or not Guild Wars is an MMO. MMO means massively multiplayer online. Guild Wars is that, is it not? True, you have to draw the line somewhere because certainly BF2142, Call of Duty, etc. aren't "MMO's", but then again, technically they are. You can make the argument of "not a persistent world", but I think that just makes it more confusing. I think Guild Wars is an MMO, but then again the next guy could say Yahoo Pool is an MMO. This dispute will continue forever, but since I think Guild Wars is worthy of being an MMO, considering it is second in numbers of this type of game to WOW, just give it MMO status and be done with it!

Then perhaps we should also list CS Source as an MMO. It's the second most played game after WoW. Or how about Call of Duty 2? No? Why not? Because they're FPS games? No, PlanetSide is an FPS; so what's the difference between PlanetSide and CS:S?

One is a huge world in which everyone coexists. If two people are in the same spot, they will see each other. The other is private/public rooms which cannot interact with each other. Exactly like an instance, you might say. Exactly like a game made of instances.

I don't care how many people will ever play CS:S or how good it is, it will never be an MMO. That isn't the design or implementation. Guild Wars isn’t an MMO because the entire game, save a few public places that are the equivalent of chat rooms, is instanced.

Massively Multiplayer Online Game. I want you to think of how many things fit those prerequisites, but you don’t consider MMOs. Now add in the condition: persistent world. And that makes all the difference.

Perhaps its time to tag the RPG back to the MMO genre. EQ is a MMORPG, its a persistent world where you live virtualy where as CS and BF you just log in and kill things or complete a specific repeatable task ie killing stuff.

MMORPG...
WoW
EQ
EQ2
Eve
Ryzom
etc

I havent played GW, so i dont know if it falls into this category. But at least this defines the category better.

Most people agree that Guild Wars is not an MMO, even Arena Net, but due to the play style and ability to connect up with people in a virtual world, I suppose it is a border line qualifier.

That 3D sequel to UO you were discussing... is Darkfall!

Good call. You are right about that. Darkfall does seem to be headed toward a feature set like UO.
