Today it is not just a mini-cast. It is a mini-mobile cast. I've clearly lost all sense, but I'm still delivering the MMORPG news. Here are the topics for today:
- Lucasarts and Bioware Corp to Develop "Ground-Breaking Interactive Entertainment Product" - gee- wonder what that is? - Pirates of the Caribbean Online is launching. Surprise! - Tabula Rasa is Launching. Surprise! - The Chinese pwn us in WoW. - Toga! Toga! TOGA!
'Good stuffs' by Lumio Submitted on 2007-10-31 13:49:12 CST yeah I am liking it better in these minicasts

Seriously, the SWG players are not just addicted to Star Wars. SWG has many good features which still today separate from other MMOs (in a good way). Of the many MMOs I've played, none have felt like less of a game than a virtual world experience (an established world, as opposed to the "make it what you want" worlds of Second Life or Habbo). I haven't played the game since 9 months or so after it's release, so I have no idea what the game is like now. But I'm certain the game's features matter to its players.
That's not to say SWG's players are not more devoted to the IP than to the game mechanics. But if Bioware is making a Star Wars MMO (I'll wait for the official confirmation), they won't steal a huge amount of SWG players unless the game mechanics offer a similar sort of virtual experience. The non-IP components of the game will be major factors.
Many Everquest players have been fervent admirers of the Everquest lore. But they didn't leave the EQ1 in droves to join EQ2, because the mechanics were different, though the lore was familiar. No, the EQ lore doesn't have the same power of the Star Wars lore to its fans, but I believe it is still comparable in effect, to a lesser degree. SWG has a significant population size if SOE still considers it to be profitable with multiple servers and constant patches. The game's players aren't just Star Wars fanatics who would play anything labelled Star Wars. They were sold on the IP first, but then they had to be sold on the game itself.
"SWG will still be around years after Bioware's Star Wars MMO is released." Save that quote for later. ;)
These mini-casts are growing on me.
'World of Willow?' by James Submitted on 2007-10-31 16:28:33 CST Maybe Lucas Arts will throw us all for a loop and release an MMO based on his cheap Tolkien knock-off "Willow."
'Illidan' by Token Submitted on 2007-10-31 19:15:55 CST Illidan was added in the Black Temple Patch after BC was released so the first kill from the west would be invalid as an example. One way you could find out a true comparison would be to look for the first Illidan kill made on a a new realm opened after that patch. For another comparison it takes me 4 weeks real world time to get to 60 and about a week to hit 70.
I'm quite the car enthusiast and am wondering where the pictures of your truck are. Also if you get pulled over by the cops while recording leave it in!
