Another week of MMORPG news mini-casts from VirginWorlds! Topics today include:
'proper.' by Grish Submitted on 2007-11-06 10:45:23 CST Personally I am enjoying the new format. The nature of my schedule doesn't always allow me to sit down at the end of each week and listen to hours of podcasts. I always appreciate it when podcasters lighten my load, by spreading themselves throughout the week. Although, I will listen regardless of the format you ultimately choose. Just keep up the great work. (and what's up with that angry-avatar on GAX?)
Once again, I have caught the Eve bug. However, memories of endless space travel and staring at rocks have me apprehensive. I am certain I will resub eventually; the future looks irrefutably bright.
Vanguard sounds like it is making great strides right now, but at this point, SoE and I still have a curious relationship. I feel like the battered wife who keeps returning to hear abusive husband. I think I'll wait for another udate or two or three.
Webwars: Eve looks brilliant. I plan on fighting for virginworlds.com -- you are not prepared.
'angry GAX avatar' by Brent Submitted on 2007-11-06 11:09:53 CST Man, everyone says that avatar looks grumpy. Ok, I changed it.
Thanks for the feedback on the mini-casts.
'Oz Avatar' by Wilhelm2451 Submitted on 2007-11-06 14:15:54 CST Yeah, that was definately the avatar to save for that Spanish prison MMO that came up last year.
What ever became of that?
'What about Hellgate London?' by sifo Submitted on 2007-11-06 14:40:42 CST I am curious to get your take on Hellgate London... or do you not consider it an MMO (I don't recall you covering in any recent episodes)? I think it is quite an entertaining game, I'm not sure if it the subscription service is worth it yet but it seems to be just as much of an MMO as Guild Wars.

'Hellgate' by Brent Submitted on 2007-11-06 14:47:21 CST It isn't a massive title in the classic sense, but I've been posting the news and referencing is now and then due to the fact that pretty much all MMO fans will likely enjoy it. This is the same for games like Oblivion when they come out. Decidedly not massive or multiplayer, but you all played it, so it's okay for me to stray out there and mention it.
'Sorry about the double-post...' by sifo Submitted on 2007-11-06 15:40:55 CST First, I apologize for the double-post, I'm not quite sure how that even happened. Second, not to make comments that are off topic from current show but here goes anyway. I was curious about Hellgate because it seems to me to be no different than Guild Wars in its MMO characteristics. Guild Wars is essentially a series of single player or group instances linked by city hubs for forming groups and taking care of all of your resupply needs. Hellgate (the multiplayer portion at least) is the same thing in that you get quests, buy gear and form groups in subway terminals then you proceed to your solo/group instance. Anywho, great show as always... I dig the mini-casts.

It's a 91 ppi scan of the issue, and really we should all go buy the official copy (online or hard copy) to encourage them to do more of these features, but I just can't quite get myself to spend the $5.
Still. If playing Tabula Rasa was as much fun as watching Sarah Morrison, the game would make LotRO's number look like a bad joke. IMHO. YMMV. CPBWNV.
'Vanguard Producer's Letter' by James Submitted on 2007-11-06 22:22:16 CST It was good to hear SOE reaffirm their commitment to Vanguard. I must admit, the recent layoffs had me concerned. I like that the original "vision" will not be held up like Scripture, and they're open to making changes to make the game better. I'm still looking to give this game a second try once I get my hands on a new gaming rig. My only concern is that I hope that their definition of making it better does not mean watering it down to the point where it's indistinguishable from EQ2, WoW, or LoTRO. All of those games are good and have their own strengths and weaknesses, but we don't need to throw another carbon copy into the mix.
I think it's vital for SOE to look to the future without alienating the existing Vanguard players who have been faithful and weathered this game's stormy first year when most (myself included) threw our hands up in frustration and threw our mouses across the room. I'm assuming that SOE learned their lesson with SWG and will factor in what's best for the game AND what's best for the current Vanguard crowd who have kept this game on life support for so long.
'Minicasts Rock...' by RadarX Submitted on 2007-11-07 16:17:18 CST Fortunately my commute to and from my day job requires less than 20 minutes and I get about the same for lunch so it can literally take me all day to get a podcast in. These bite sized ones are perfect for me (not that I really objected to the larger ones).
That was some great EVE coverage and I didn't realize how much was going on with VG. It sounds like SOE might be moving in the right direction.
Kudos for the playboy coverage... we were the only Tabula Rasa fansite to news that yesterday. There is no shame!
