Thu, 6 Dec 2007 14:21:00 GMT [download/play]

In this 5th episode, I bring on Jonathan, a fellow podcaster from the Online Gamer's Anthology for a conversational show where we discuss our favorite and not-so-favorite things about this game.
Some of the latest news I cover involves a recent patch to the Test Server which has some really promising features like an attribute point respeccing, and the Military Surplus is finally looming on the horizon! Also be sure to take a look at the changes projected for the BioTech and Medic classes in an upcoming patch.
The Fansite of the Week this episode is , which can help you find those particularly tricky Logos shrines that you may be missing.
Be sure to check out the new Amazon price drop on Tabula Rasa... it's now half price!! And the Collector's Edition is 57% off!! Can you believe this?! I just need to find an excuse to have a second account, now.
The theme song for TabulaCast is "Erase/Rewind" by The Cardigans .

Episode 5 Discussion Thread

I got myself a cheap copy of TR and have spent 3 hours on it. I bought it on impulse after listening to the show.

Raves : I can play the game with surprisingly high settings on my old rig, the game looks pretty good. My only complaint with the engine would be the hitching when moving and looking around.

I was literally in shock when I stumbled upon one of our bases that had been fortified by the Bane. When I attacked the base there was a massive military response from both sides, I found myself crouching beneath a Friendly mech walker that appeared to help with the assault. We took the base and I logged off for a few hours. When i logged back in the Bane were at the front door of the base, I took position on the Wall and eventually the base fell starship troopers style, but not before an Extremely cool and dynamic fight. When enemy drop ships appeared over the base to provide reinforcements I couldn't believe how awesome it was.

Rants : I don't know how I'm meant to survive till Stealth armor without placing a point in Reflective, but surely that would be a complete waste of a point later on. I have no confidence in the decisions I make for my character and I just hate the tier class system they've decided to adopt.

General Ui clunkyness. E.g I bought a stack of superior ammo but can't use it, i haven't a clue why. I had armor dyes in the Beta featuring a color wheel, it was brilliant, but now I'm not getting Dyes, I don't know why.

Sudden deaths are my biggest problem with this game. I've pumped the health stat with every point and equipped the best reflective armor I can use but I still seem to get 1 shotted by something every 30 mins. I've thought about placing an egg timer next to my computer when playing TR so I know when my instagib death is coming up. I'll be questing and enjoying the game, watching my shield and health very closely, but then out of nowhere I will just get owned as if every enemy in the world shot and crit me at the same time. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with a particular mob or level range, it's just completely random and annoying. When i try to sprint and run away I sometimes just stop running and stand there with no debuffs or webs, then i am choosing my res location again. It's just so arcade and out of my hands at this point i hope it gets better with levels because I can't stand this for much longer

I've got a pretty high end computer and am able to play at max and its a very rare occurance that I get hitching at any point, so you may consider that it's your computer. I'm currently playing a character whos armor I dont plan to upgrade past motor assist, it is a bit more difficult to survive but you kinda have to be more picky about the fights, particularly when you are an new to a zone.

If you look in your misc. inventory slot you should see a stack of 10 dyes you started with, those ones have the color wheel option. Any dyes you pick up beyond that will be recipes for a dye that can make a color within its range (different shades of purple for example).

Sudden deaths are one of the most irritating "features" to me. It takes alot of effort to avoid getting one shotted by the mobs, and I've got an engineer with shield bots and mech armor who this is happening to. It seems they are working to fix this because going back to Palisades with an alt has become alot easier, the first time around I would be consistently one shotted by 3+ warnets hitting me at the same time.

I love your podcast but my one huge gripe is your theme song. Every time I hear it, i want to tear my hair out its so damn bad. You should really consider changing it to something else or do something similar to what Brent does in his VirginWorlds podcast (playing snippets of different songs).

Thanks Edwin. Funny you should mention the computer, I've ordered a new gaming rig so hopefully TR will transform into a fun experience for me very soon. I don't know how I've missed those dyes but it's good to hear that the sudden deaths aren't just happening to me.

I would consider to put a point in Reflective Armor if you are working up the soldier path. Yes, you may potentially not use reflective armor later, but as you complete Targets of Opportunity missions for the different zones you will get more clone credits . By the time you reach 30 or somewhere above that is the time you may need to consider if that point should go somewhere else and by that time you would have a number of extra clone credits from the TOOs. By the time you are 30 you could potentially have completed up to 6 of those.

And since you can reallocate all skill points for a clone within the career path chosen you can just skip the skills you do not want.

My new computer is running this game in 1360x768 with maximum settings and it's so smooth :D

I wouldn't be too worried about using clone credits just for a respec. With the continued changes that the devs are implementing to the classes they are also giving respecs to everyone, one of these free respecs has happened already.

Token, I'm glad to hear that youve got the game running nice and smooth. It really does ramp up the experience of the whole thing :)
