Voyages of Vanguard #25Tue, 30 Oct 2007 03:53:00 GMT [download/play]
Along the way, Troy uses his character Pidglet to thwart and rib Karen
as much as he can. Karen and Troy start the show with a series of
shout-outs to the guys who post in the forums, then lead into a great
letter from Varka on DPS and how it may not be as easy as knowing which
weapon is the best. Following the discussion on weapons and Damage Per
Second, the two talk about the fires in southern California and some
various news events. Troy is upset this week with continued
performance issues and Karen tries to calm him down, but in the end
both agree that stability issues can be the undoing to the MMO. At the
end of the show, Troy interviews Razadine that has been absent for some
time from the show.
Show Points * Vanguard Introduction * Shout-Outs * Varka's Letter on DPS * VoV Friend's Network * Troy's Rant * Troy's and Karen's Blog * Interview with Razadine

'Another good podcast' by Eax Submitted on 2007-10-30 04:53:34 CST Good show guys. You two have a good dialogue going and you keep it interesting. I will keep tuning in every week for sure. Alot of good housing information this week too, thanks for that.
"How many humps do you like, Karen?" That cracked me up. :)
'Phantasm Adventures Sadly is No Longer In Print' by Shalimar616 Submitted on 2007-10-30 06:32:25 CST Regretably Phantasm Adventures is no longer in print, unless of course you can read Japanese.
With as equal regret, my great science-fiction rpg, Multiverse, is also unavailable in the English language.

'"Phantasm adventures"' by waltar Submitted on 2007-10-30 11:41:59 CST You have to have, just one copy, (English) laying around? I live by a D&D meeting area, called "The Blue Dragon". I could have everyone playing your game there in less, then a week!
'Humps' by Medz Submitted on 2007-10-30 15:33:03 CST So KaRen, one hump does it for you?
'Guild Hall Gratz' by James Submitted on 2007-10-30 22:13:02 CST Gratz to Revelry and Honor for completing your guild hall! This "Pidglet" character you guys run with sounds like quite the primadonna, however. Ah, I suppose he can't be blamed for his mischievous nature--those goblins are just gnomes with a little too much chlorophyll in their pigment after all. Seriously though, it's really reaffirming to hear you guys having a blast and keeping your heads up through the occassional behind-the-scenes ups-and-downs at V:SoH. Thanks for another fun show.
'Camping' by varka Submitted on 2007-10-31 00:36:15 CST In regards to camping of end-game content I just wanted to make a couple of points.
If anyone has been trying to take down Hegnarion in the Thestran swamps they will know that the camping is already a problem. Hegnarion drops the Core of Ezigoth which is needed to make your swamp gear breastplate... so nearly everyone wants it.
He's on a 4 hour respawn, and he doesn't drop the Core every time... ok in and of itself, but I'd prefer maybe a higher drop-rate. My guild has killed him maybe 10 times over about two months and only got 3 Cores (I think...) I don't have one at least :(
The event is also actually a series of fights through 4 bosses with some other combat in between, and numerous unscrupulous guilds have been known to exploit this layout to gain ownship of Hegnarion whilst another guild (who did all the work) is finishing off the last boss.
That said.. they are addressing the issue in raiding with Lockout Timers. Supposedly, after a group kills a raid boss they will be locked out of that event for several hours, but the boss will repop much faster, preventing one (or a few) guilds from dominating a boss spawn.
I wish they would apply this concept to events like Hegnarion.

'It might be in the title, Lumio' by James Submitted on 2007-11-01 19:31:07 CST Lumio,
I find that my comments don't post if I forget to put some text in the title. This happened to me several times before I figured out. Not sure if this is what happened to you, but just a thought.
'Sweet!' by Jonathan Submitted on 2007-11-02 22:44:31 CST Great episode as always! And congrats on the guildhall completion! One thing I sure love about Vanguard is the guildhalls. I love the designs of them and the concept of having to work together as a guild to build it. BTW, I hear the hanging portait of Pidglet is actually a raid-level drop...
