world.com wasn't around in the early 80's... when I was subscribed on my commodore 64 for a service called "people-link"... which allowed me to walk around a "virtual world" and chat with others. I could also take classes and participate in an online community.
One thing that came to mind upon hearing about this though was GIF, you know that graphic format that no one uses anymore because CompuServe claimed to own it and wanted royalties from the whole world wide web for its use for 20 the last 20 years. Hogwash!
