No Prisoners, No Mercy
Host: Julie Whitefeather & Frances Kosac
There comes a time, friends, when your favorite MMO ceases to sparkle, when even new videogames lose their luster, and the computer room becomes a prison; and all that is left are two gamers (who happen to be nuns) with a very large axe to grind. Come join Julie Whitefeather and Frances Kosac as they go to War - and along the way discuss the events of the week in the MMO industry.

Episode 12 Discussion Thread

'Renown Gear Merchants & Other Ranting' by Gigawatt
Submitted on 2008-11-03 15:06:33 CST
If you ever need a Renown Gear Merchant and all of your keeps are taken, just go back to your city. So long as your guild is rank 6, you have access into Sigmar's Hammer in Altdorf, and Viper's Pit in the Inevitable City. Both of these have each tier's merchants inside. Another added bonus; there is another flight master inside as well.

Renown Trainers can be found in the city itself.

Hoping this system will change and will not be available in the future, as there is no real point nor incentive to RvRing at the moment.

I'm hoping by next patch they will fix some of the bugged items in the game as well. But considering they have been there since beta, have been bug reported thousands of times and still have yet to be fixed, I won't hold my breath. For those who are interested, here are two of the few in the game. There are close to around 20 total that I have found so far.

Helfried's Sholdaplate
http://www.wardb.com/item.aspx?id=800672
(Look at the block rating on the item, and then search for the next closest block rating item...Several people are using this item as we speak in order to achieve over a permanent 90% block chance. T4 is ridiculous, and each day a new player finds out about these items, it makes the experience worse.)

Newshore Labrys
http://www.wardb.com/item.aspx?id=70258
(Notice this is a 1 handed weapon that is for Marauders. Has the same DPS as a 2 handed weapon. While not as bad as Helfried's, it's still pretty damn bad. Plus it comes from a 2nd level influence reward.)

Yes, I notice I posted two destruction based items. There are a few Order items that can be used for exploitation. I have T4 destro and order characters. When it comes to exploitation, it doesn't stop with items either. T4 players are becoming bored, and are using them more and more.

I'm a little mad due to the fact that out of all of the exploits/bugs I have reported since closed beta, 1...yes...ONE, has been fixed. Was hoping once a larger audience was introduced to the game, they would be fixed, but not yet.

Oh well, enough complaining! Just posting this here to hopefully inspire people to use the bug reporting feature more often.

If you have any other questions about the items, shoot me a tell in-game. When I'm online, I'm working on leveling my Swordmaster on Phoenix Throne. Name is Alab. All of the other alts, and mains have been shelved pending temporary sub cancellation until 1.1

Unfortunately I doubt it will do any good to report any "bugged" items here. I sort of doubt that anyone from Mythic listens to our little podcast but I guess you never know.

I don't recall bringing up renown items in the show but I do indeed go to the guild hall when ever I need renown gear on the destruction side. On the order side our guild isn't level 6 yet so I still find it necessary to go to keeps - on the order side this is sometimes a problem as keeps held by order seem to be few and far between.

Keeping in mind that we record the show in sections, and not all at once (much the same way a television show is produced) I went back and listened to the show again - and hit a section that was "recorded earlier" as they say and edited by Fran. Yes indeed I did indeed discuss the keep/renown gear merchant issue. I stand corrected (albeit by myself).

@ Greeblee: In fact Greeblee has sent me several posts with dirty loincloths attached, the last one saying "collect them all". Eventually I had to ask him to stop sending me his dirty undies; to which he replied "there not mine". I assured him that the fact that they were someone elses was not only NOT reassuring but I had no desire to know where he got someone else's dirty undies.

The moral of the story: The moral of the story is this - if you are on the Phoenix Throne server on the order side, join the guild or I will ask Greeblee to start sending dirty undies to you!

So THAT'S where all of my dirty laundy is going! That sneaky Greeblee...

Great show today that brought up some interesting topics. I for one am excited to be breaking into Tier 3 soon and then Tier 4 to see how much the Open RvR changes.

As for keeps. The Marsh of Madness keep is almost always Order controlled. Only reason I've noticed is that I do a lot of Mourkain Temple. I've been running back and forth between there and the camp when getting Renown Levels to see if there's any good gear available, and to train my Renown Skills.

Thanks for the mentions in the show. I'm just glad I can help out the guild where possible. And as for me being good luck, that's my "Mad Skillz" I tellz ya....err..umm...or maybe we were just having an "on" day? =p

I was there for a lot of the Hubbub surrounding Fran's name (Truckstoppa), not just in Nordenwatch, but in one of the PQ areas as well, and if you ask me, it was just childish on their part. There are a lot of other very non-roleplayish names around that they could focus their energies on, especially since Fran has an explanation of where her name comes from.

Finally, throwing down the Guantlet with the Warpath "Dogs of War" guild. I've run into a couple of then in Mourkain Temple, and it has been my pleasure to dispose of their Greenskins, particularly one named Bleeda. Unfortunately they're part fungus and keep growing back! (Hope to see more of them around, it's a fun friendly competition).

If you need an invite to the N.P.N.M Guild, feel free to send a tell to Maclore, Maclash, or Maclypse and I'll get you an invite if no one else had beaten me to it.

As a long time reader/listener of Sister Julie, a Destro player on Pheinox Throne and a member for Dogs of War, I am be over joyed to the idea of and RvR face off between our guilds. We are in fact about the same size as N.P.N.M but with perhaps a little higher general player/guild Rank. As I write this my mind swims with ideas on how we could organize this. Perhaps something like a 6 vs. 6 battle with in a certain range of ranks may keep it fair.

One can do some nice recon at http://realmwar.warhammeronline.com/realmwar/Index.war by looking up guilds & players.

I will approach our leadership with the idea if they haven't begun to plan your destruction already :)

Keep up the great work on the podcast!

P.S. Don't let my name scare ya, I'm really just a carebear 0/

Sorry Sister Frances, but your constant whining about Order being underpowered and underdogs is getting to be pathetic.

Simple fact: Order classes on par (SwordMaster-BlackOrc being the exception) are more powerful than their Destruction counterparts.

I have played on four servers (Order on Averheim and Phoenix Throne, Destruction on Badlands and Skull Throne), and Order wins 80% to 90% of Scenario's. It doesn't matter of how organized, how much Destruction sticks together, Order just wins.

So unless you have factual numbers and as much experience going back into the Closed Beta, I'm going to have to call bunk on your whining about Order being underpowered.

There may be a few percentage more Destruction players per server, but Order is definitely more powerful in equal numbers.

And my main is Order, just in case you think I'm a whining Destruction player.

Honestly, from stepping back and looking at the game, I truthfully don't feel any side is more Overpowered than the other. Overall, I've won about an equal number of Scenarios as I've lost. Cloth classes on both sides do about the same damage/healing, and die quick. The tank classes on both sides can take a lot of damage, but they don't put out as much. And the DPS classes are right down the middle.

What I truly believe it boils down to is who is in your scenario. Bolstered levels are nowhere near as powerful as actually being that level. So, if you have a bunch of level 14 Destruction in a Scenario with a bunch of 18-20 Order, Order IS going to win. But it works the same the other way as well. If there are a lot of under leveled Order, Destruciton will win.

I think in any game you could sit there argue over who is more overpowered until you're blue in the face, and I do agree there is a little tweaking to do on both ends, but I feel Mythic pretty much hit the hammer on the head for balancing the classes for PvP. There are days when I can' t win a scenario to save my life, then there's days like today where I did a total of 15-20 scenarios and only lost about 5. When I looked at the levels afterward, it explained it almost perfectly.

A word in Fran's defense (it's early and she isn't quite awake yet) is that even the developers have spoken about how difficult an orc tank is to take down. In fact I have watched one dev interview when he was discussing collison detection talking about having to block in an orc tank and it taking 6 players to take him down. Perceived or not I think that the Black Orc is indeed one tough cookie and is that way on purpose.

You want the truth? You can't handle the truth...

...and the truth is I have yet to see any "facts" published anywhere (although I am sure that there are some they must all be in the hands of Mythic Entertainment). The interesting thing is when I play destruction they say order always wins and when I play order they say destruction always wins.

Now Paul Barnett, whom we quoted on an earlier show did echo much the same sentiments on the issue as JMO did above.

Now everyone knows I am a big destruction fan, but whining? Sheesh come on...can't you come up with a better put down than that? Why is it that whenever someone doesn't agree with someone else they consider them to be "whining". I mean really lets at least get a bit creative here. Say something like YOU HAVE YOUR HEAD SO FAR UP YOUR TOOKUSS THAT YOU COULD FART THROUGH YOUR EARS. Then go on to deny Fran the right to speak her mind about destruction versus orcs AND if she does so again you will personally send a heard of squig herders and THEIR dirty undies after her.

But hey thats just me.

Julie

p.s. Fran just woke up and she says in next weeks show she will find some numbers. I have no idea what the numbers are I haven't got anything but conjecture and having played both sides of the fence since close beta.

...which is impressive!

First off, thanks for backing us up on our WoW discussion that drew a bit of ire. It's always impressive how much a little harshness can send people into a blood-frenzy. Suffice to say, Stephen and I just wanted to speak our minds, then be done with WoW discussion, by and large.

Onto your show, while I disagree with Sister Fran's point of view on the relative strength and weaknesses of the various careers on Order v Destruction, I don't blame her at all for having that outlook. Look at ScytheNoire's comment for a counter-example to the "grass is always greener" argument. This is bound to happen in a game where there are different career options based on faction. It used to happen in WoW all the time before the Allies got Shamans and the Horde got Paladins. Allies would complain that the Shaman was so amazing and it was unfair that the Horde had them, and the Horde would complain just as loud about not having Paladins.

I honestly feel that there may be some imbalance on an individual vs. individual basis, but that's kindof ok with me. WAR is a game meant to be played in a group, and I really do feel that the sides are balanced reasonably well, on the whole. As for anecdotal evidence, I tend to either win every scenario I drop into in a given night, or lose them all. I think the numbers come out reasonably even in the end.

Aaaaanyhoo, good show and keep it up!

WAAAAAAGH!!!!!

Elves? What can I say- even the men wear dresses

Dwarves? What can you say about a race of people who are so short they need a step ladder to tie their own shoes. They might be better fighters if they weren't DRUNK all the time.

Human? Please...the best thing the Chaos gods ever did for the human race is mutate them into something worth more than troll spit. What do the followers of Chaos worship? THE BLOOD GOD! What do the humans worship? Some wimp named Sigmar that had to unite people to fight against the races of destruction because he and his people were too WEAK to do it by themselves.

Think that will stir up the pot a bit?

Sorry if I wasn't clear before. I never claimed 57 block rating was 57%.

The point of this item is it not in-line with the other items, and allows 3+ other item slots to be used for other stats. Fair warning, tooltip info in game is often incorrect as well when it shows your %.

Block is extremely important once ORVR gets running, as it was in beta. Unlike other games, block in WAR can soak up several more damage sources than simply physical damage. That's the real beauty of the game and why I still have faith in it. Tanks can actually do a BIG part in organized rvr.

Basing the stats on the itemization of the game, you can clearly see it isn't correct.

"Simple fact: Order classes on par (SwordMaster-BlackOrc being the exception) are more powerful than their Destruction counterparts."

For someone that claims he plays Order let me point out a few facts.

1) Order melee has 0, yes that's right 0 AoE knockdown. In T4 AoE knockdown+chaos rift = win win win!

2) Archmage more powerful than shaman? You obviously have no clue about either class but even Shaman would know they far outshine the Archmage in it's current form.

3) Whitelion better than Marauder? That's laughable even to a Marauder who want's to get a buff. Marauder out dps's and out tanks a WL. 1/4 of their DPS isn't on a pet who can be fart at and die. How about cut off the marauder arm and then we'll say they are on par with the Whitelion.

4) Blackorc is the best tank in game, IB's can do more DPS but this is about tanking.

5) Sorc/BW on part with each other. Suggesting otherwise? Play each and stop whining about BWs because they and the IB are probably the ONLY 2 classes that are anywhere remotely up to par with Destruction.

6) Witch elf, good lord man, witch elf compared to Witch Hunter. You seriously consider a WE lesser of the two? The WE can cut a healer/caster down in 4-5 seconds keeping them stunlocked the entire time. A Witch hunter can't come NEAR that.

In conclusion, wrong on all counts.

Just wanted to clarify the statement I made:

"1) Order melee has 0, yes that's right 0 AoE knockdown. In T4 AoE knockdown+chaos rift = win win win!"

Destruction has 3 melee classes with AoE stun/knockdown (Chosen/Marauder/Witch Elf). There is 0, notta, zippo NONE on Order. At this time there is NOT an immunity timer on stun so guess who wins once they close with ya. Guess who doesn't win with knockback.

Nov 6, 08 ain't today great, cough, cough,

I play numerous toons, and play several on several servers.

What I'm Mad as a Buck about is ....scenario imbalance.

Was playing a WE (witch elf) and went into a scenario 3 times in a row.

First time THEY had 15 folks and we had 9...hmmm 67% more peeps they had.
Wonder why we got our butts kicked.
2nd time 14 peeps to our 10, well a little better, problem this time was about 50% of our team join about 90-120 sec into the scenario starting. Butt kicked again.
3rd time a charm right? I donnnnn't tink so.... ended up being 14 to 11, end we the short end of the deal, and of the highest 8 lvl players in the scenario, they had 6 of the 8 above lvl 18. There was NEVER any of the Scenario will end in one minute due to IMBALANCE we used to get, we just got HAMMERED. The only good thing I saw is, that they were getting like 9-11k XP to our 3-4 k xp SO, soon they be in the next tier.

Love the show, ya crack me up. Might have to roll a toon up on yr server just do see if ya that funny on Vent.

We are on the Phoenix Throne server on the order side. Right now, with Alts, we have about 38 members. Greeblee, one of our officers, has been a "busy beaver" when it comes to recruiting. You can find a list of members (though not complete for as I have said there have been new additions to the guild lately) here:

http://groups.google.com/group/noprisonersnomercy

Any member level (not initiate) and above can bring people into the guild at an initiate level. Any officer can promote to member level.

we look forward to seeing you. One side note, I have noticed that most of the activity seems to take place later in the evening.

'Black orcs and you!' by AdmiralAwesome
Submitted on 2008-11-07 21:30:09 CST
So I'm a swedish black orc who plays on the Axe bite pass server.
Currently im lvl 27, pretty close to 28 and renown rank 25. I usaly play with guild mates so we have some sort of team work going, and its true I'm hard to take down and i for one think the 6 people to take a black orc down was a understatement, when my shaman mate is up it would take at least 12, and my healer getting attacked by a cat IRL to bring me down (it gives 10 sec silence duo to not being able to click keyboard thanks to the feral cat thats scratching your eyes out)

But thats beside the point, i deal 70-100 dmg with my normal axe swings, i deal 100-200 with my styles depending on what plan I'm in.

My assignment in rvr is to make as many people as possible to attack me, to guard the guys getting hit by the ones who are not attacking me and to annoy the healers.
Funny enough all i have to do is brake the front line and most will follow me too the back line where I'm bashing silly healers, i don't do any dmg to them, their 15 sec hot can out heal my dmg without a sweat but i try to disrupt the big heals, knock them out of LOS from their healing targets and generally being a big bully. might sound annoying but theres a trick to bring me down witch i will show in this easy to understand picture

Order ME! Shaman
^ ^ ^
idiots ME! the guy they should be hitting

A black orc is nothing without a group to back him up, without a melee that helps me kill stuff it takes about 45 sec to kill a healer, and thats when they are not healing them self - if they start healing i just go cry in a corner
I need a constant stream of heals otherwise i die in 15-20 sec and i wont be able to kill anything in 15 sec i will barely scratch a bright wizard in that time...

Without a group a black orc is just a litle girl, a litle girl encased in armor made out of 3 inches of scrap metal.

Im not defending the player that claimed to report you, but I would wager that the complaint they had about your name wasnt abour the word 'truck' but rather the 'stoppa.'

'Stoppa' has a distinct orc ring to it, and so I could see some RP minded players unhappy about your dwarf having such a name.
