'???' by Token Submitted on 2008-12-18 01:02:38 CST Why has one of the most entertaining VW podcasts been transformed into a tip show full of bloggers reading off HammerWiki content? Its maybe just a one off I couldn't listen past a few minutes. Don't waste your talents Sister Julie!
'In Perspective' by Jmo Submitted on 2008-12-18 01:19:33 CST The segment you heard in this show was actually recorded in one sitting, as part of Episodes 15, and what was supposed to be part 2 in Episode 16. With the death of Fran's mom, I'm sure Sister Fran and Sister Julie have been busy with plenty of other things and still wanted to be able to get a show out each week to the listeners. So, they split it up in the three shows.
Also, just because you didn't think it was worth listening to, I'm sure there's someone out there who learned something from the episode that will help them out in WAR. If that's the case, then this episode was a success. I'm sure next week will be back to the normal format. Just my 2cp.
'As it so happens' by Julie Submitted on 2008-12-18 02:44:33 CST As it so happens there are people out there who are interested in crafting. In fact, I am one of them. When I played EQ2 nearly all my time was spent crafting and the people here who were kind enough to share their time did NOT read anything off "HammerWiki"
That said Mom died this last week and about the last thing Fran and I felt like doing was recording a show. This last week was a week I had feared for years. Still we wanted to bring our listeners a show. It is important to us to keep on schedule. It is fortunate as mom's health did a sudden decline that there was enough material to split it out into this extra show.

'P.S.' by Julie Submitted on 2008-12-18 02:46:27 CST P.S. thanks for the "most entertaining VW podcasts" compliment, however. We are planning on return to our usual format with a show that should be out this next monday morning.

'You did what with your talisman? Talismans don't go there.' by jefferylgreen Submitted on 2008-12-18 13:33:59 CST I too have encountered the problem of trying to fuse a talisman to an object and told that the talisman does not go there, or something like that. I am just guessing, but certain talismans can only go on certain items. I was trying to place it on a shoulder piece, the same talisman went fine on my shoes.
Excellent Podcast very informative, and I really enjoyed it.

'Talisman troubles' by Unn Submitted on 2008-12-18 15:19:36 CST When I've had items "reject" talismans, it was sometimes because, although the talisman itself was appropriate to my level, it was too high for the piece of equipment I was trying to fit it into. Therefore, it was the gear that was too low-level for the talisman. Just a thought, in case that might be happening to some of you.
'ah' by Token Submitted on 2008-12-18 16:54:07 CST I'm sorry to hear of your loss, it's quite amazing that you put out a show at all.
'Thank you for understanding' by Julie Submitted on 2008-12-18 17:22:38 CST As far as crafting is concerned, it depends on the system the game uses. Myself i am more of a fan of crafting in Warcraft and EQ2 than War.
@ Token,
Thanks for understanding and here is a tentative list of topics for next Monday's show in the usual format:
1. Mad as Hell: The phone call (no - not a guest spot)
2. Pinball Wizard
3. Say goodbye to Harboy
4. Cap'd out or Craped out
5. The New PvP or Why do these spaulders look like they came from "Al's used armor emporium"?
6. Feasting and Brawling
7. Dante's MMO
8. RMT has (not) been very, very good to me
9. Hardcore no more
And if there is time a feature on the Storm Peaks Mountains
'I found it informative' by Seritaph Submitted on 2008-12-18 17:29:34 CST Being someone who likes to craft as much as adventure, I appreciate this podcast and any other future podcasts that give instruction in this area. I did learn quite a few things, and I'm saving this episode on my drive for future reference. Crafting is somewhat intuitive, but still many parts are unexplained and a person is pretty much on thier own to figure things out.
Thanks to Saylah, Letrange, and JMO for doing all the work and sharing.

'Cool' by FarSpace Submitted on 2008-12-19 06:38:03 CST Oh my, I didn't even realise Warhammer had crafting in it, I just never hear about it.
And then you all did pretty good from what I could tell.
'True, it could be better...' by Unn Submitted on 2008-12-19 13:24:07 CST FarSpace, the same thing happened to me; it took me a while to find out about crafting. I think the best introduction to crafting I've had was in LOTRO: after your starting zone, you're sent to an NPC, who talks to you about choosing a profession. LOTRO professions are comprised of three crafts each, sometimes complementary, sometimes not. There are crafting areas or halls everywhere you go, and it's easy to get the hang of it.
'Make it better' by Julie Submitted on 2008-12-19 15:40:39 CST Well Unn, I will have will have to agree that the crafting system in Lotro (as well as EQ2 which also has crafting centers) sure beats the pants off of the crafting in WAR. Where professions/crafting is concerned there should be alot more attention paid to them. The fact that our own Farspace didn't even know there is crafting in War is evidence of the cursory attention them seem to be give in the game mechanics. I think Lotro sending you to an NPC to explain it is the right way to go.
Most important to me is that crafting should be made an intergral part of the game if it is to be in the game at all. A good example was UO where you could have a character that was a crafter, dedicated thier skills to that craft. In UO the crafters, especially armorers, where an important part ot the game. It was also much more social. The GM armorers (myself included) would all gather at the village smithy repairing armor and making custom armor for those players on the way to the "dungeons." Crafting became social as well as useful and we were even able to have our own shops to sell our goods.

'An afterthought?' by Unn Submitted on 2008-12-19 16:37:00 CST I was thinking that crafting seems almost like an afterhtought in WAR. As if they suddenly realized that they needed to give players some kind of crafting to do. Why only two production skills? I'm not sure that every game needs to have the exact same set of skills; for example, it's interesting that they don't have armor and weapons crafting in WAR, for example. Maybe to avoid the mining rush? I don't know, it's a weird system.
What would be neat is a production skill to make siege engines, oil, etc. (I think this was mentioned somewhere, can't remember the source though). More geared towards the unique character of this game.
'My Sympathies!' by Saylah Submitted on 2008-12-21 18:59:11 CST I had no idea that your mother had passed. I wish you and your family all the best. I didn't know why the show was delayed. I assumed it was just the normal holiday running around and hectic work schedules.
Reading off of HammerWiki? We simply explained how crafting works and the pluses and minuses based on our own in game experience. So unless HammerWiki was in our heads and stole our words, the advise was from experiences.
Crafting in WAR does feels like an afterthought even with all the inventive ideas they tried to implement, it has to be one of the worst systems I've encountered. Which is all the more reason why its good to give people some advice so they can avoid the the problems we've encountered by making less informed choices.
