No Prisoners, No Mercy
Host: Julie Whitefeather & Frances Kosac

Come join Julie Whitefeather and Frances Kosac as they go to War - and along the way discuss the events of the week in the MMO industry.

Please let us know if you like the Waaaghammer podcast. We are considering making the "Waaagh" section a regular feature on the podcast if everyone likes it.

Finally, someone talks about some W.A.R. Having not had a chance to play it yet, I'm starving for details. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the game, first impressions, opinions about skimpy underwear models, etc, etc.

By the way, nearly every MMO has one of THOSE characters. In fact, back in the early EQ days I played an high-elf enchanter, and when I would illusion into a barbarian they didn't have robe model skins for the barbarian classes (because you couldn't really be a robe wearing class as a barbarian) and poof there I was standing naked except for a pair of short-short hot pants, hands balled up into fits on my hips, chest out posing like a perverted Superman! Like you two do, there's nothing I could do but laugh. In fact, I took it a step further. If I knew I'd be grouping with some females in a group (friends from a guild who knew me), I'd illusion and dance around like a chip and dale dancer. Well what can you do but make light of it. And I always got a good laugh out of it.

Anyways, thanks for the always entertaining podcast.

It means alot when someone puts in a good word. I guess it kind of balances out the people who hate the show and are vocal about it.

In any case, when all of the discussions are done, whether the pvp is good or bad, whether or not the quests are buggy, as long as a game runs smoothly at the outside (and it does) I am willing to give the rest the benefit of the doubt. As you can tell, though I am a big fan of Warhammer I don't mind blasting something when it is due - and not creditng the people who worked on projects is one of the things that deserves blasting.

Next week we promised Mr. Hampton the next part of his interview. However we are also anxious to continue with more "Waaaughammer". It occurred to me that, while Mythic has done a great job of selling the game, not everyone would know of the adventures of Gotrek and Felix, nor even know why there was a bare chested dwarf with a red mohawk haircut s in the starting area.

Thanks again.

My Daughter was walking by when I had this pod cast going out loud, and she said, "Hay, their funny! Hahahaha :)" So that's got to be a good thing. Actually she laughed big time again at the Fanboy/Fangirl section around 19 min and 49 seconds into it, haha.

Also I'd like to say, I liked EQ II much more then EQ so my guess is I'll like WAR. Except WAR has got a bit of a better atmosphere imo.

My best guess About the average computer, from what I see it is about Intel based CPU 1.8GHz or better with 1 gig of ram and a video card that handles DX 9 or at least 7 but plays DX 9.0c games.

I like the Waaaghammer section, because we have so much of Waaagh on the internet let alone MMORPG's in general, I do like it when you talk about the Waaagh in any or all the MMORPG's too though. It all sounds great to me either way.

I said to my self, Oh I get it, it's like, "You want some cheese with that Waaagh?" Right? Lol.

One thing is I just hope you do not have to be the top level to PvP in WAR or any other new MMORPG's out there, like in most MMORPG's so far have been. Too bad the most successful MMO is the type that you need to be the top level and investors are looking at that.

About female Orcs, does LotROL have female Orcs? I know there weren't any in the movies and did not see them in the books of what I read. Since they were just grown out of the ground in LOTR too I guess. If LotROL can put female Orcs in the game then maybe WAR can. But if not then I would not expect it in WAR.

lots of smart info in the show too.

Lineage 2 has female orcs. I don't know what to think. They're kind of in their underwear too. I think I need a cold shower.

Funcom's CEO did not dump all of his stock in the company.

Despite that, good show! Looking forward to the next episode!

ok u called me a fanboi in the podcast and normaly i would say ur wrong... but ive been play/building/painting warhammer modles on and off for over 15 years. i dont play/build/paint modles everyday (far from it),but i have picked up a bit of WARlore here and there. this is what i know.

in the warhammer would greenskins are a fungi. they sprout right out of the ground. some think a snotling (the smallest of the greenskins) are the equivalent of orc/goblin "childern", and they grow and fight and eat and grow..... and u end up with a orc/gobo (not really sure what the exacts of the process are. i dont think anyone is). much cooler then the D&D greenskin wich basicly has a humanlike ecolagy, ie; born to a mother and a father and "raised." if u know the lore its pritty cool.

lol NO FEMALE GREENSKINS! lol

o and im a Warhammer fanboi, i think WAR-online could flop on its face if there not carefull =(

Thanks and yes, I stand corrected he dumped some of his stock not all of it. Still, as massively said, the timing of the whole thing is a bit odd isn't it? It smells like last weeks fish to me.

@ Bigredjeff I don't recall calling you a fanboi in the last podcast but if you insist...you are a fanboi. And what is more you and anyone else who cares to defend the FACT yes the FACT that Greenskins did NOT come from under mushrooms (I heard they are found under a cabage leaf) are free to submit an mp3 file (44100 hz please...we use audacity its free) to explain to the world that 1.) Green skins should not come in female versions no matter just how much they make the rest of the world shudder *shudders* and 2.) That they did indeed come from mushrooms that fell from space.

In fact anyone who want to submit anything for the show can email it to noprisonersnomercy@gmail.com Please record it at 44100 hz. Why? My technical now how is not yet sufficient to mix recordings at different speeds...thats why. Mia Culpa

(In fact my first greenskin army came out of a packing box)

"There are no male orcs, there are no female orcs. There is just orcs and they grew from mushrooms that came from space. It was the 70s I'm sure you can understand."...Fran and I laughed so hard we almost wet ourselves. I will have to see if I can find that one.

@ Farspace Yes I would like some cheese with that waaagh. In fact I like cheese and so does my dog, we fight over the cheese regularly. As far as what level at what you can pvp, I got to pvp in Warhammer when I was only level 6. In fact when I wasn't level 8 yet and wanted to pvp in a scenario it kicked me up two levels. I was able to particpate in realm vs. realm before I even hit level 10. Ok so a really big greenskin tossed my dwarf ironbreaker out of the battlefield but it WAS pvp. We should discuss that no the next show. And tell your daughter thanks - high praise indeed (seriously).

Really, you should consider doing some voice acting. When you rasp "WAUGHHH" it actually shocked me! Serious, I peed a little!

Great pod cast, you two are loads of fun. Keep em coming!

Now that you mention it I do have a BFA in theater. In fact Fran has asked me to do the WAAAGH section in my dwarven ironbreaker voice. The short story behind it is I write two columns for the older gamers. One is a story entitled "Call Me Inktomi". It is being published in episodes (I am a bit behind) and I have over a years worth of columns to publish there. When I read a draft of the new chapters I write I do the dwarven voices in a scottish accent. I considered her request but I am a bit hesitant to do it.

"Still, as massively said, the timing of the whole thing is a bit odd isn't it? It smells like last weeks fish to me"

He sold it at a time after the stock had already dropped down from a high level to one that was slightly lower than the normal level. If he wanted to get out as much as possible from selling and get out he would probably have sold when it was higher.

Looking at LinkedIn he has been in the CEO position at Funcom far longer than he has been in any of his previous positions, so I think he actually likes it.

And being a Swede where we have similar tax rules to Norway, I can certainly believe the statement for the reason for selling (paying off tax on stock+option and withheld wealth tax). I have been in a situation due to tax rules for stock and options where I had to pay more tax than I earned one year.

Indeed, I wrote an article (which will appear in the future) stating that I thought a "post mortum" for AoC was a bit premature. My main qualm with the game is the inability for the game to run smoothly at the recommended hardware specs. Alot of the rest I can live with, but not that.

Still, as I said 415,000 subscribers should be more than enough to keep the servers open. Just because Fran and I are jumping ship on AoC doesn't mean anyone else will or should. There is a tendency for authors and reviewers to feel that once they don't like the game no one else should. I try not to be one of them. After all, one persons garbage is another person's treasure. CCP, after all, has made a big success and manages to support one whopping big "super computer" on far less subscribers than AoC has.

Many moons ago, there was a little game from GW called "Bloodbowl". It was a spoof of American football, set in the Warhammer World. It included rules for star players, free agents... and cheerleader squads.

I think that after the sculptors for the orc cheerleaders got out of therepy, they swore off the idea of ever doing another greenskin female.

I had to create a login just to tell you Julia that your podcast is really good. The content is very informative and very down to earth. Most podcast do not relate to the gamers they broadcast to. Some of the other podcast are just news clippings of "What is going on this month in gaming/" Your podcast is a mirror reflection of how the community feels as a whole from the perspective of a fellow gamer.

Keep up the great work with the podcast!!!

'thanks again' by Julie
Submitted on 2008-08-30 19:20:22 CST
thanks so much Cybern1x that means alot Fran and I both...thats what keeps us both going. We are already working on the next podcast set for recording this wednesday. And again, if anyone wants to be on the podcast, send an mp3 file to noprisonersnomercy@gmail.com. This next podcast some of the things we have planned are to talk a bit about who gotrek and feliz are and also let Mr. Hampton continue talking...this time about his books.

@Grimjakk While I was a greenskin player I sure do remember bloodbowl. And yes, I still stand by my insistance that I want to play a female shaman...and yes I will be playing the character from my column about the female goblin anyway.

just needed to say that I'm loving this podcast. Great work Julie and Fran. I think it's just the style and personality that really just appeals to me - it has quickly become one of my favourites. I'm looking forward to Warhammer so definitely interested in Warhammer related chat - and I used to have Bloodbowl! I loved it!

'Community' by Talyn

I couldn't help but notice how both of you were enjoying the sense of community and cooperation. I had similar impressions of Age of Conan during beta. Everyone in chat was pretty cool and level-headed. We were having fun along with the many frustrations and overall were cooperative and supportive. Then the game went live and it was a whole new audience taking over the game and forums. That seems to be a common theme in all my previous beta experiences, especially any time a game has PvP as a high priority. Taking off the rose-colored glasses and official fanboy registration cards for a moment, do we feel WAR also runs the risk of becoming yet another PvP-oriented game overrun by the filth-spewing griefing XBL kiddies?

'RvR > PvP, community-wise...' by Grimjakk
Submitted on 2008-09-02 02:55:09 CST
It would surprise me if the whole community devolved to that level. The "us vs. them" focus of RvR tends to mitigate against it. You'll see some of it in the newby areas, but ending up on guild blacklists and realmmates' ignore lists has a bit of long term impact in an RvR game.

Your latest podcast definitely made me smile and laugh. The Waaagh audio put a ear to ear grin on my face. Thank you for that.

The first time I heard your podcast I was a bit surprised as it wasn't exactly what I was expecting ( whatever that was idk) however I am looking forward to each new episode simply because of your presentation and viewpoints.

Take care from a very happy listener.

I love a bit of contraversy too. (so far I've agreed with everything you've said ;-)
Keep up the good work. Now I'm off check out The Older Gamer, Ive just got back into gaming after a long break... too long.

In fact I am most of the way through editing show five now. It has proven to be so long, in fact, that we may have to give Mr. Hampton a "special edition" of No Prisoners, No mercy all to h imself for the rest of his interviews. We have indeed kept the Waaagh section and this week will even include a little something on WoW we have dubbed "hip hop hell"

Show five out later today (hopefully)
