No Prisoners, No Mercy Host: Julie Whitefeather & Frances Kosac There comes a time, friends, when your favorite MMO ceases to sparkle, when even new videogames lose their luster, and the computer room becomes a prison; and all that is left are two gamers (who happen to be nuns) with a very large axe to grind. Come join Julie Whitefeather and Frances Kosac as they go to War - and along the way discuss the events of the week in the MMO industry.
'STO Beta' by Floss Submitted on 2010-01-18 16:25:05 CST Great podcast ladies.
On the STO taking players from EVE front - hmmm I think possibly some casual players may go check out STO and stay. Even though both games are Sc-Fi themed I think the general perception of EVE is that of the "hardcore" end of the spectrum and that, from my experience in the beta, that STO can and will be a much more "casual" experience.
Enjoying the STO beta, when I can prise my son off my PC! That lifetime sub is looking very tempting right now.....
'STO vs. Eve' by Julie Submitted on 2010-01-19 18:44:27 CST There may very well be people (and I am one of them) that are looking for qualities in Eve Online that CCP seems determined not to put in thier game. Dollars to donuts, as grandma used to say, those people will try out Star Trek Online and say...I am one of them. My main interest in Eve these days was industry...but not enough to put up with the direction the game has taken.
There are places where both games are similar and places where they differ. Where they differ (and I am happy about) is that the "death penalty" isn't severe STO like it is in Eve.

'meh' by Token Submitted on 2010-01-20 00:40:59 CST Perhaps a good topic for a future show would be ' what do you want from EVE'. I don't think I've heard anyone discuss that before.
The STO beta didn't impress me at all, gonna wait for the free trial, maybe it will be better then.
'Generic Post Title' by Julie Submitted on 2010-01-20 11:53:21 CST As for my take, what I want from Eve Online is a company that cares about those of us who just want to enjoy the PvE side of the game in peace - but that is never going to happen. It is a good idea for a show, however and I know just who would be a good candidate for the "pro-eve" side of the discussion.
Right now I am finshing up the editing on a two hour show with the community manager and director of desgin for Quest Online studios, have another panel/round table show to edit after that, have an interview scheduled for today with someone from Funcom - so the show would be out there a bit.
Then again both Eve Online and Star Trek Online are here to stay so we have time don't we?
Thanks for the idea.

'That would be fun...' by Saylah Submitted on 2010-01-23 04:53:28 CST What people want from EVE would be an interesting round table show. I think the audiences are different - EVE vs. STO. But there are borderline players in EVE, who will probably enjoy the PVE side of STO better than EVE, if they can get over the heavily instanced design.
'Eve vs. STO' by Julie Submitted on 2010-01-23 14:00:43 CST It might be an interesting show at that...the next 2 to 3 shows are already recorded so it would be after STO has been out for a bit. It certainly does seem to me that there will be some of the new players who are interested in primarily the PVE side of Eve migrate to STO - CCP seems to have very little concern for that side of thier game beyond the new player experience. In STO it is at least possible to enjoy the pve part of the game in peace, the big difference being that in STO pvp (I seem to love acronynms) is consensual where as in EvE the pve is subject to involvement in pvp whether they like it or not, and it is obvious that CCP considers that part of their design.
That will certainly appeal to the veteran players and fortunately there is no real need for an "end game" in Eve Online. But it will have a detrimental affect on their market long run.
I think one of the strong points of Star Trek Online is that it will appeal to a much larger audience, some of whom might never have even considered playing an online game before. After all, Star Trek originally came out before there was even an internet.

'P.S. Early release' by Julie Submitted on 2010-01-23 14:02:09 CST Hopefully the "public" version of show 53 with the community manager and director of design from the Quest Online studio will be out soon. In the mean time, for all you dedicated listeners it is out on early release. There is a link on the front page of our website at www.noprisonersnomercy.com
'You are 100% correct Julie' by FarSpace Submitted on 2010-01-27 01:44:21 CST Personaly I got tired waiting for the EVE lore we see on the website and news stories to actualy get into the game
And my 2 brothers and I are not playing anymore for that reason, we even had a corp going and it is just a drag to do anything together, it's all this huge undertaking, who cares about loss that was not the problem. we didn't even get a chance to do much PvP because there was no reason to do it. We all thought it felt meaningless.
What were we going to do, take up this huge undertaking to build and maintane a POS. and what lore does that involve? What, some dude would make up some stupid story about how we were attacking the poor moons serface?
They got some interesting things to take note of in EVE and learn about but beyond that I give up on them creating real lore in game.
And they already said they wern't adding any lore into walking in stations either. and nothing even in Dust 514. Just doll house bars to mess with and running around and shooting untill you got a control point respectively.
'This about that...' by Julie Submitted on 2010-01-28 15:36:10 CST Well let me say this about that. I am not sure what part of show 52 I was right about but all is not lost in the big world of Eden. One thing that Eve has that STO does not have is the ability to make a virtual living at virtual industry. There are pros and cons to this and Letrange, who has been a guest on our show has a couple interesting articles about that and more here:
