Welcome to Show Number 68!
Fallout: New Vegas is discussed, including the talents of Wayne “Mr.
Las Vegas” Newton. Fran and Julie see the handwriting on the wall (it
spells net neutrality). Also discussed - World of Warcraft, The
Transformers mmo, Bill Roper, Medal of Honor, Star Wars, Blue Ray and
laser disks the size of a tire on a buick.
The topics of the week are Guild Wars 2, including the dynamic events
system, and Julie decides that it really could be the future of mmos.
Next we talk about World of Warcraft’s Cataclysm expansion. We save
the best for last and spend a few minutes with Dr. Richard Bartle and
chat about his upcoming award as a legend of gaming.

At the end of this week's show we have a short (yes SHORT) interview with Dr. Richard Bartle talking about his upcoming award as a legend of gaming. This weekend we attended the Chicago Comic Con (my first time) and got to meet Brent Spiner and Walter Koenig (a bit of a sad story there in the case of Mr. Koenig, you can check out our blog at www.noprisonersnomercy.com for details). While we where there we also met colorist Jeff Balke who will stop by for a SHORT chat on later shows. Some of the folks from Icarus Studios have agreed to stop by for a SHORT chat on coming shows (we are happy to say that they have started to bring staff back).
Why the emphasis on SHORT? Because we want you to know that we heard all of you when you said you didn't want us to take a back seat to anyone. As a result, guest spots will be kept SHORT.
Thanks all for the continued support
Thanks to Brent for continuing the web site
And thanks to our sponsor for the air time

'Thanks for the mention' by Randomessa

As the title says, thank you for the mention in your podcast (and yes, the name is a pseudonym; I can't even claim it's a clever childhood nickname I'm afraid :)). As always, it is a delight when you get to speak to Dr. Bartle on your show.
Now that we have been able to see Guild Wars 2 in demo form there is some confirmation of the aural and visual notifications of events in progress that we were told about, though it does appear that the information "pops up" on your UI as well. Whether that was a concession for the sake of the demo, or a compromise for gameplay accessibility... who knows? Event persistence is another item we have not yet seen in action as intended due to the short demo times, so bloggers may still be debating about that until beta or release just yet.

Great show girls. Really enjoyed the interview.
Quick note on EQII Extended: A friend of mine at work loaded it up and ended up resubbing to EQII Live. He was a died in the wool WoW'er but he says he's having a blast with EQII. Go figure.
'Mia Culpa' by Julie

@ Randomessa: Mia Culpa, it seems that although we talked about your wonderful article I neglected to add it to the list. Rest assured it is on our list of regular reads on the NPNM website. I do indeed hope there is some que in the UI of some sort (i.e. "Hey do you think those centaurs are the bad guys or do the villagers have it coming?"). I am keeping my fingers crossed for ArenaNet to make good on the persistence issue.
@ Checksix: My concern is that SOE is trying to generate new players but then keeping the new players separate with the "great wall of SOE" and keeping them in their own little ghetto as Tipa from West Karana put it. The lack of players around to game with - everyone else in the guild being at the level cap. It seems to me that dividing the free 2 play players and the subscription players negates the entire purpose of the free to play.
p.s. (Baaaa? Is this a code of some sort?)

I would have said the exact same thing. I really didn't expect him to sub to the live game...but there he did. I downloaded it and played it. It brought back alot of good feelings I had about the game but I don't think I'll resub.
Baaaa - I think you started a post title with "Ba Ba Blacksheep", which i took as a play on "Checksix" being a fighter pilot term and "BBB" being an old show about WWII navy pilots. Sorry it was a long way around the barn for that inside joke ;)
