No Prisoners, No Mercy
Host: Julie Whitefeather & Frances Kosac
There comes a time, friends, when your favorite MMO ceases to sparkle, when even new videogames lose their luster, and the computer room becomes a prison; and all that is left are two gamers (who happen to be nuns) with a very large axe to grind. Come join Julie Whitefeather and Frances Kosac as they go to War - and along the way discuss the events of the week in the MMO industry.

Episode 9 Discussion Thread

'No Prisoners, No Mercy Guild' by BurntSushi

I would love to join you guys over there on Phoenix Throne. Gosh, I have to start over lol. But I will roll over there. My characters name is Eckhardt send me a tell and we can start this guild.

I think that you should go with the guild name as the name of the podcast. No Prisoners, No Mercy would be a great guild name and easily identify use on the server.

Also another question, are we going to have a Ventrilo server?

Thanks for reading my comment on the show.

Hmmm seems someone stole my awesomeness. I have changed my character name on Phoenix Throne. Instead of Eckhardt it is Heinrecht.

Well we will make sure we add you to our friends lists. In the mean time don't go deleting any characters - we have to see if there are enough people interested in this to make a guild.

Good day, lasses!

Yet another great show! Made me chuckle a good few times. And thanks for reading out my post with such a fantastic accent as well! haha! I find when Im playing Skaradrin or even writing as him I cant help but go into dwarf mode. Same with my greenskins. Maybe its actually easier for my to rp their dialects as I am english, if that makes sense?

Anyway the main point of this thread is to say how happy I am about the new patch for three reasons.
1) Order are getting some love on my server as we are getting a 20% xp/renown bonus while leveling, trying to bolster the order side a bit. Im not going to go on about this too much as I have a feeling its going to upset a few folks, Im thinking mostly destruction players. And despite us being harsh rivals on the battlefield I hae nothing bad to say about the players. So far I have not witnessed any of that nasty "youve just died so Im gonna emote all over your corpse" business to date.
2) Concerning scenario loot you wont be able to need on a item that doesnt match your career/race. This will cut down on the high level of Ass-Hattery that has been known to go on and makes me a very happy guy. Such a excellent move by Mythic and I defy anyone to argue against this.
3)A "join all" button for scenario queues.

Never before in a MMO have I personally seen a patch that I thought "yes, that is great and will hopefully help the game". Although as I said I reckon the xp bonus might have a bit of a backlash. But havent checked any forums yet.

As a aside, I recently left Tier 2 in a grand fashion. I jumped into a night of keep defence. What a experience. Stood behind the keep door, shoulder to shoulder with 3 other brave Ironbreakers as the door was slowly giving up the ghost, spurring each other on. The door went down, we plugged it up (thank you collision detection) and didnt budge from our spot till Destruction was a bloody quivering mess. I wouldve fought on longer had I not been transformed into the contents of a KFC Family Bucket. Thats right, leveled during the fight and BHAM chicken-ified. I cant think of a better way of leveling though and it was pretty funny.

The greatest of luck to you forming your guild. Youll have to keep us posted on how its coming along. Im sure you wont be short of members.

Bevis aka Skaradrin, still picking the feathers out of his beard.

Well Skaradrin I must admit that you have rekindled my interest in my dwarven Ironbreaker Brighde. I would like to read this post on show number 10 and, if you dont mind, read it with my feeble attempt at a scottish accent (my great grandmother was from the highlands of scotland).

I whole heartedly agree with your take on the last update - with one minor disappointment on my side.

First and foremost....yay for the whole can't need on items not for your race class. As I said on the last podcast, while this wont make me offer to have Mark Jacobs babies I would consider picking out curtains with him. I always pass on something that isn't for my race or class. There isn't time in the heat of battle to pause and consider quality of the item so I greed it if it is for my class/race. I rarely need anything. Exceptions are, for example, when I took down a tank in a battleground (it happens but only one on one) and a blue cloak for my race dropped. It was far better than mine (I was wearing a quest cloak) so and as I took down the tank I felt free to need it. As a tribute to my team mates (none of them from my guild) there was no discension about it.

Join all for scenarios! Yay! I was surprised just how many scenarios there are in Tier 3. Not all of them are popular on my server (Badlands) and so I have yet to have a chance to participate in some of them. This is just one of those wonderful things that make life in Warhammer a bit easier.

As far as the boost to order on your server there is something to be said for being on an underpopulated side when the other is very popular. This was the case for me when I played World of Warcraft. Back when 60 was the level cap when the other side was waiting an hour for a battleground to pop I had to wait less than three minutes on average.

If I were on the destruction side on your server I would be glad for the new ]blood that this boost brings in. My big question is, when I heard this, does it mean that the boost only lasts for a week? or does it mean you get 20% boost if you roll a character in that week?

As for your going out in Grand style it would be nice if when someone such as yourself has a grand adventure that you would be kind enough to post a url for a screenshot and favor us with a story. In fact why don't you send us an mp3 shot regaling us all with the story of your keep defense so we can air it on the next show.

Thanks so much for being kind enough to listen to the last show.

I'm angry at EA as well, especially over Spore. I was really looking forward to that game, and now I can't buy it. Well, I could, but I won't. I cannot support a company who would charge me $50.00, give me limited installations of a product, and throw some crappy program I don't want on there -- all in the name of protecting their software from piracy. They need to take a lesson from a company called Stardock, who created a game called Sins of a Solar Empire which sold very well with no DRMs or copy protection schemes.

Thanks for reading my comments and making discussion, I enjoyed that.

Names for your guild (which I'd love to join once I get the game in my greedy little paws):

Ordained Crusaders
Mandate of Mayhem
Concorde of Chaos

oh, or how about... No Prisoners, No Mercy?

Burnt Sushi did indeed suggest no prisoners no mercy. Now all we need is enough people to form the guid. So far we can have a good game of poker with the number of people we have but we don't have enough to form a guild (you need six). I think all the names are wonderful...thanks so much for the suggestions. I will leave it up to Fran on which one to use (if we get enough people together).

I was also greatly looking forward to Spore. I even had my first creature created (a horned squig) but I will not endorse any game that leaves me with one extra install after I buy it and put it on both of the computers I share with Fran. Even if that wasn't the case I still won't support it because of the SecuRom program. I am hoping the lawsuit will be successful and EA will be forced to remove the program or, in the very least, make it so it is removed once the program is deleted off the computer.

I am on Phoenix Throne right now, leveling up a WH. I am sure we can get enough people to make a guild. Six isn't too hard to get.

My character's name is Heinrecht on PT. Whoever is on there send me a tell.

...or a bowling team. This all puts me in mind of a cartoon I saw in regard to World of Warcraft. This male night elf character is talking to a female night elf character. The panels read as follows:

Panel 1: male elf to female elf - "Hey baby wanna join my guild?"

Panel 2: Female elf to male elf - "if I join how many peope will be in the guild?'

Panel 3: Male elf to female elf: - "just you and me baby, just you and me."

So far we have enough for a bowling team if everyone shows up; enough for poker if Seritaph joins the guild. I am going to feel unloved here in a minute.

In any case gave Fran a call and gave her your information. She was busy with her duties at the moment so we will see what happens.

'Ceadrick the Mad Dwarf here!' by Ceadrick

HI all Ceadrick here-(SeedRick)
Great show! I play a Rune Priest on the Avenheim server in the Casulaties of War guild. But if you need another person to help make a guild I would be more then happy to come over and start an alt. I didn't catch if your going to be Order or Destro. I love playing healers but with all the talk of Iron breakers and Black Orks I think I might roll one of those.
I wanted to talk about the Rune Priest a bit since I play one and hes Rank 23.
First off as a RP you don't need to fight or do any type of damage to get action points to power your spells. You just stop casting and your AP replentish. Much like the rogues power in WOW. I like this more then the Warrior Priest or Disciple of Khanes mechanic. I normally play pure healers, I have a 70 holy priest and a 70 holy pally in WoW, and this suits me better. The RP gets a variety of healing, buff, and damage spells. You have instant cast, heal over time and longer cast heals. You get a small shield spell as well as a variety of buff spells. You get a direct damage, aoe and damage over time spells. Of course you get a number of tactics that help modify your healing or damage dealing and the morale spells give a big heal that is great in the heat of battle. Boy I say you get, a lot...
The Rune Priest and The Zealot are the mirrors of each other and they play pretty much the same way. The two characters are almost always the top healers in the scenerios that I've been in.
If you have any questions about the RP you can drop me a line at mark@fomarcreations.com
Have fun all!

Hi there Ceadrick the mad dwarf. First thanks for sponsoring the show. Second the great thing about healers in Warhammer are the new game mechanics they all use. It is a refreshing change to play a game were healers must be in the front row in some cases. This was one of the subjects we were going to talk about in the next show...healers.

And yes, we could use your help in starting a guild. We have been on earlier trying to start one but we need a party of six. We will try again tonight. We wanted to start an order guild on the Phoenix Throne server.

Thanks again for your help and your sponsorship.

I am logged into Phoenix Throne but I cannot seem to add you Julie. It is spelled Brigdhe correct?

Oh well. I should be on most of the night. Don't forget to add Heinrecht, Julie or anyone else.

Hi there. I talked to Fran and I understand she caught up with you. Most of the time when I play these days it's on destruction side as Inktomi "Inky" Nohealzforu. When I play on the order side these days my main is Sister. And Brighde is spelled...well...you can see.

Talk to you soon,

Julie

So, I'm debating on whether I'm should pick up WAR or not. I know you guys are masters on the subject, so tell me why I should buy it.

For you, why is it worth the $50?

What does it offer that other MMOs don't?

I do follow the gaming new pretty closely, so I know about Public Quests and the basics of RvR. Do these really make a big difference in the game, or are they just a small side note to the normal grind?

Finallly, be honest, what does it do better than any other game out there, and what does it do worse/what could be better?

I've read a ton of articles on WAR, including Brent's, and I'm inclined to believe that WAR is just not really any different than WoW or any other game out there. Show me the light!

My vote for the Top Podcaster on the planet Earth. Someone who is a "real" gamer vs some of these "posers" who podcast.

How refreshing to hear someone with the passion of a "gamer". Someone who tells it like it is and could not give a care what others think.

Keep telling it like it is "sister" (pun intended). This podcast moved to my Number One Podcast to listen to.

FINALLY, a real gamer, a REAL podcast.

I wonder if "www.nunworlds.com" is available? /snicker

Keep up the good work. Your number one in my book, because you are a GAMER, plain and simple.

@ JMO Well JMO in the end only you can make that decision. Having been an avid World of Warcraft player and worked toons up to level 70 on both horde and alliance Warhammer is like WoW without all the BS. We will make sure to talk about this subject on the next show, however. For myself, if never having to hear "what spec are you" while some jackass decides whether or not you are good enough to be in your group...well that alone is worth switching. The big test for me is - "will Wrath of the Lich King" make me willing to log back on again.

@ Mezzum: Top podcaster on planet earth? Do I detect a note of sarcasm? Even if not you must have overlooked the fine talent in the other podcasts in the collective in that summation of our talents. Fran and I are just a couple of middle aged broads that love to play games and get excited (sometimes a bit TOO excited) about what we play. And as anyone who has heard Fran will agree, I am sure, her laughter is contagious.

Thanks for the compliments and subjects of discusion both of you.
