Episode 10 Discussion Thread

My my! Weren't we all sweary this week? Have you been hanging around with a rough crowd, you potty mouths? haha Just kidding. Really good show, shame about Matt's sound quality.

I can kind of see where Brent is coming from with about the art. I hadn't been a big comic fan for long when I bought V for Vendetta and Watchmen and the art was kinda jarring at first. I found the more I read, though, the less it bothered me as I would just get sucked into the worlds that had been created in these books. I guess you could liken it to watching a great 80s movie. The story and characters are great but the asthetics are just kinda wierd.

Im with Shutty on The Spirit. No previous knowledge of the character but I really enjoyed the film. The best word for it was fun. It was just silly, over the top and cheeky fun. I think it was definately worth the cinema admission.

Really odd you mentioned Order of the Stick though. About a week ago I noticed that my local gaming store (D&D, wargames, boardgames style gaming store) had volume 2. So I picked that up and asked if they could get the others in. Little did I know that I would end up spending just of 50 on the whole collection! lol Loads of reading to do though :D Hopefully I'll be picking up the trades of another web comic I like, Achewood, soon.

We had a lots of fun this show, i hope it notices. It was actually nice to get away from the guest shows.

I stand by the fact The Spirit was a great movie I want Stephen and Matt to watch it and then report back.

Sorry about Matt;s audio due to his gmaing pc blowing up hes borrowing a laptop and his skype setup was not his own. Tried to tweak the volume but it just gave tons of background noise.

We'll be back on full steam next time!

Wonder what Brent thinks of Watchmen now?

I know shuttie said as much but yeah, apologies for the sound quality XD

A combination of random setup and being in a relatively small lead-lined room with alot of electronics humming away. Oh and being at the arse-end of nowhere :P

I can has moar funz plzkthkx?! hehehe

...curse words? Why the f$%k would you curse? It's called a f*&^%&n CLEAN show.

Now, as far as Guitar Player, or whatever you guys call it. It is INDEED crack.

Is it not sad that with all of our technological advancements, we enjoy dots on the screen more than a 3-d representation of our selves, placed into a massive fantasy world? I think it speaks to the fact that adults are never adults..just children pretending to be adults.

Comic Books? I am mad at them. Their prices have made me laugh, being that half of the comics are crap. And printing, while better now, has only become cheaper. I will listen to you for some recommendin's, but I can't part with 12 for a glossy, floppy crappy comic. I'll just read them in the store.

And oh yeh: I f^&#*&N hate Superman. He is like the show Friends, and like my theory on ease in character creation: you take that dumbass show Friends, and notice that money is never an issue with them. Never. They have great places to live, and cool jobs. All this in NYC.
Take Superman. What can he do? Everything. What's his weakness? One thing that is REALLY f&*^%&n rare. No one has Kryptonite in their pocket, 'cept that dude Gene Hackman.
You give a character everything and, although you CAN have good character development, you have skipped over some of the most interesting yet hardest to write about stuff: the boring, everyday stuff.

But hey, what do I know.

Anyway, back to lissenin'.

Your accent sounds good, but to be honest it's obvious now that you live in New Jersey. Quit faking.

Ya know I really beat myself up over the swearing and wether we should not swear at all or leave it in and bleep it? still undecided what do you think?

It wasn't planned it was just natural emotion, editing it out and redo's make it false. I dunno, I'm interested on listener feedback on that one?

@beau Your thoughts on superman are exactly why this New Krypton book is good, basically 100's of kryptonians loose on Earth puts the single super wonderfullness of superman into perspective.

Print costs are an issue but I guess we arent paying for the printing of it we are paying for the art and the crafted story so the price reflects that? maybe?

I loved gene hackmans wig issues in that movie!

I was keeding. The quality of the show makes up for my bruised morals. I will take the hits. After all, me and Leala NEVER curse.

Ever.

I liked the idea at the end of your show for the achievement system. I will have to re-listen and write everything down.

And yeh, I would pay for the books, but I just can't get over the sting of having to pay literally 75 cents for a book back when x-men was GOOD compared to paying 2.25 for a basic book now.

Oh well, I'll check out that book, if I am lucky Superman will finally die. (For the 5th time.)

No, dammit one last point: I used to do comics, like print up 300 or so a month and trade em, and my heroes were pretty ordinary people, but some were pretty powerful. Maybe I just want better characters? I dunno', I need to read a few more or dig up some of my old ones.

I agree with you guys about Spirman Noir, loved issue one. Unfortunately my local store, and the net, is out of Xmen Noir #1.

Just wondering, are you guys keeping up with Final Crisis? I'm reading it in a vain attempt to get into the DCU, so far I'm just being thoroughly confused :P.

Also you guys mentioned how the Marvel events are getting bigger and bigger and bigger. well i think it's just the opposite, well not exactly. I think they're doing Skrull Invasion/Dark Reign to get the Marvel U back to normal. Since Hawkeye is back, Mockingbird is back, bucky is back, the new avengers has a cap again. And the Hank Pym, the main architect of the Initiative, turned out to be a skrull. And thankfully Tony stark isn't omnipotent anymore. So I think this is Marvel's way of hitting the reset button, getting rid of deaths and effects that reach all the way back to House of M.

Just my thoughts ;)

doesnt more heroes alive mean a bigger universe though? in the sense of a hero based U that is?

'Spirit gets thumbs up from my bro's' by FarSpace
Submitted on 2009-01-16 08:17:16 CST
I liked the Spirit movie, I thought it had great art direction and it was allot like a comic. All my brothers liked it too for different reasons,

my oldest brother liked the humor the most & how it made light of it's self and how it included visuals.

another brother liked the story and how it interesting in a fun way.

And my youngest brother liked Spirits personality and how he was funny in a lost but confident way.

Maybe I should ask them to send me an e-mail telling me what they thought about Spirit and then I could just copy and paste.
