'borean versus howling' by Token Submitted on 2008-12-01 05:35:26 CST I hate to ruin a good theory because it sounds plausible, but I played Howling first and didn't like it much, I'm doing Borean now and like it a lot better. I will explain my reasons though if you are interested.
Most people I've talked to say Howling is much better, but I honestly don't see it. Howling to me felt like a new zone added onto the top of Tirisfall glades rather than the mighty Lich King expansion. The Valkir just look like a load of vikings and their buildings reminded me heavily of Warhammer's empire zones and Age of Conan generally. Some of the elements looked and felt so unoriginal I almost felt embarrassed playing it. What happened to the Lion of the MMO industry I thought to myself. It seemed like a massive imagination shortfall after BC, I was so fed up I didn't even get to 71 before logging off for a couple of weeks.
Arriving at Borean as Horde hugely impressed me from the start. Warsong Hold is imposing and magnificent, the surrounding landscape is enigmatic because it just looks so weird. Some of the quests creeped me out which was great.
Utgarde 0/10 - Very boring and too hard, long runs back.
Nexus 10/10 - Wonderful visuals and very manageable at 70 with rubbish gear.
