Through the Aftermath Episode 18
Wed, 2 Sep 2009 19:51:00 GMT [download/play]

You know we've been waiting a long time for this episode, but the Fallen Earth post-NDA edition is finally here. Shawn and Jonathan talk about their favorite and least favorite parts of this upcoming post-apocalyptic MMO based on a rating system for each category. These include graphics, performance, social features, combat and much more.

While the open beta will be ending tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept 1st), the game is slated for launch on September 15th. Also remember, these impressions of the game are based on a pre-launch beta state.

If you've seen District 9, you may recognize Jonathan's epic 10-minute intro skit. If not, go see it!

Our next episode should be the post-DragonCon show, so look for that in about 2 weeks.

Enjoyed the show.. I too have been in the beta.. well, I started in the closed beta. It has been an interesting ride. I have great hope for this game.

one question though. if one of your listeners starts a guild which faction would you want to be in? lol

Great show, was also in the beta, had lots of fun and looking forward for the launch of the game.
I have a bit of a pre cu SWG feeling, wich was my first mmo.
So keep up the good work guys. and i hope you talk more about your adventures in Fallen Earth.

regards
Flexe

This was the best intro eva!! So freakin' funny :)

I hope Fallen Earth really does become the next sandbox-like game with a really strong community, I can see role players having a total field day in that game. My favorite part was the crafting too and I loved that you could have it running at any time. I actually don't like sitting around crafting, I like setting up my mats click on the button and just go shoot stuff. It kinda baffles some people would have something to complain about the system.

I'm holding out for better characters faces myself, perhaps there will be plastic surgeons surface at one point? ^_^ That's the only thing holding me back right now which is shame.

I also agree on the whole emptyness of the world, sure it's supposed to look decimated but looks the world just feels like they didn't have time to fill it in.

@barb: Oh dang, you're right! We never actually mentioned our faction preference yet, did we? (Is this the part where people in the future will look back and say "that is the moment when the "Brotherhood of Steel" began to splinter into smaller rival factions??) I am definately going to be a sucker for the crafting, so I can totally see myself being a "Tech". I'll be curious to see where we all inevitably end up. :)

@Flexe: It's funny you mention pre-CU SWG... I find myself making that link quite often, too. I spent a ridiculous amount of time on Tatooine building ships and furniture with my crafting stations and harvesters, and FE definately has that same feel when it comes to the crafting side. I think that's one reason why the open-endedness of the FE world lends itself so well to this.
As for the adventure stories, there will definately be quite a few very soon... and of course a few FE intro skits already in the pipeline... ;)

I'm glad you guys loved the intro... I must admit, mimicking Wikus' south African accent was a real trick. I was worried I was going to sound like Terry Jones with a closed-head injury.

(Oh! You snuck up on me while I was posting! )

I absolutely agree with you about the community. There's alot of PA-fans that are going to have a blast with this game. I think the game will appear rough around the edges to alot of people, but underneath it will be a real jem... both with the community and with game system itself. There's a huge chunk of the game that really shines a bit into the game that I hope alot of people get to discover before they decide whether they like it or not. I also think the community will really help the game evolve in much the same way EveOnline did, in fact, I've found myself drawing comparisons to Eve lately as much as SWG. This game has alot of potential. And the team behind it is a very talented group that wants to see this game do well.
Agreed on the face options too... is it just me, or does my character have an eerie resemblance to Jason Bateman?

Before I had even heard of EVE, I'd heard about SWG (pre NPE), I liked the idea of player-centric harvesting/manufacturing, also the fact that becoming a Jedi was "SUPPOSED to be HARD!!", not a starting player-class. The NPE (or NGE, whatever) hit before I ever got around to trying it out, and totally turned me off.

While checking out a generic MMO site, I set the filter for Sci-Fi... and started reading about EVE, now this had everything I liked about what I had read about SWG. I read so many EVE-related forums for 6 months before I had a PC that could play it. I've been on EVE for over a year and a half now, and still love it.

Fallen Earth may just start to occupy some space on my HDD, and my credit card. I hope to hear more on your experience with it.

PS: I'm assuming FE was "the game I can't talk about, but am having a blast playing"...

'SWG crafting' by Eldarwen

SWG just went through an update that has boosted droid engineer crafting. The crafting in general is still very involved and requires a lot of time. Over the years past the NGE the crafting system has seen several improvements and additions. So I would say from your explanation of the fallen earth crafting that they are simular.
