'Living Legends == NGE redux' by Isanox Submitted on 2008-06-15 19:15:19 CST The analogy between Living Legends and phone/cable promotions is completely off base. Name me one company that will give you all the hardware, and 2 months of free service without a 1 to 2 year contract.
Also, if there is a special, I can call up and get a better deal, because guess what, they value me as a customer unlike SOE.
As for all of the future shinnies and events, a returning customer has access to all of that. It’s only the current customers that are treated like 2nd class citizen.
I hope you enjoy your free game time Darren, before you move on to another game. Just like most if not all of the other LL’s will do. Then it will be up to those customers who SOE ignored to keep EQ2 and the rest of SOE afloat. I just hope they show SOE as much loyalty as SOE showed them, and hit cancel.
I’ve cancelled, after years of playing and watching every game system, from classes, to zone layouts, from crafting to brokering, change at least once. But I’ll be back when I get my free expansion pack, two months free game time, and in-game items that current subscribers can get.
I maybe be a crybaby as you call me Darren, but what does that make SOE?
Ungrateful? Shortsighted?

Home phone service, free phone. Fine print of course...but no contract.
Living Legends = NGE? Are you out of your mind? This is a marketing promotion with little trinkets given to new players. What combat mechanics did they change for this? Am I missing something here?
'Living Legacy' by Belo Submitted on 2008-06-15 20:44:10 CST I would have never ventured back into EQ2 if not for Living Legacy. It is understandable though...that veterans might be upset, but this is something that will ultimately help EQ2 especially in an increasingly competitive market. And you want to talk about being treated 2nd class? Play Matrix Online for a year. I'm also glad we found another reason to hate SOE, now everyone on Tabula Rasa general chat can cite more than just NGE - should make all the screaming much more interesting.
'Now that I've listened' by Akely Submitted on 2008-06-16 03:41:24 CST Don't fret Brent. The sound is better on your show to my ears.
Living Legacy:
I feel petty feeling left out. It's not that I've like lost anything, but I've not gained anything either. And I don't moan and bitch when someone else win the lottery. and WHAT? A DRAKE PET! Now... this means WAR!
Imbalance:
I don't PvP. If I want to get beat up I would play CounterStrike or Armed Assault.

And it is duly noted that He Who is the Internet is envious on me being a one game only kinda guy.
'Living Legacy' by animagnum Submitted on 2008-06-17 13:13:44 CST I can understand veteran players feeling left out of the Living Legacy promotion. I felt the same way in LotRO when they awarded pre-release players with a special level 25 mount. I played in the beta but was unable to transfer my account to a paid account after the game's release, so as far as Turbine is concerned, I never played the game until it hit store shelves. It wasn't a great bonus item, but it still left me feeling jealous of my guildies who got it. Oh well. It is a delicate balance between encouraging new and former players to join while pleasing the existing player base. I imagine SOE and other companies handle this by trying to alternate promotions and bonuses to best serve the different parties.
'Living Legacy' by Gnova Submitted on 2008-06-17 15:54:08 CST SOE are in fact giving current subscribers a substantial gift with this promotion. A large influx of players. A boost in the playerbase is probably the most meaningful gift a mmo company can offer it's current playerbase.
So what if they get a few things given to them as enticement. Did the armor they have been given come out of your inventory? No. So why do you care?
Character balance:
I really wish this didn't matter but it does. If you are fortunate enough to play alongside friends most of the time or primarily solo this isn't a major issue.
If you play a lot in PUGs or raid this matters greatly. PUGs generally won't take weaker classes into their group if at all possible. If you are playing a class that is considered to be gimped you will likely never be accepted into a raiding guild.
One of the most irritating things I find about AoC atm is all the chatter in the channels about "which classes are going to be desired for endgame". Firstly, I don't think anyone really knows because there will be much buffing and gimping of classes for the next while and the conversations are full of people trying to sound like they know what they are talking about when really they have no idea.
This is a honest concern for some players since they don't want to play a class to level 50-60 and find out they are playing a permaLFG class.
