Episode 72 Discussion Thread

'I'm not French but...' by Miffy
Submitted on 2010-10-17 22:24:02 CST
Even if the USA was connected by land to Germany like France was, they wouldn't have been able to defend themselves. The French were also taken by surprise to how the Germans travelled through the Ardennes. Their defense were places through their weak spots and not on that forest which was seen as unpassable. Also without the French we wouldn't had D Day and Germany would have been less under pressure.

Just saying many factors went to why we won the war...

Germany letting the British soldiers go at Dunkirk.
Germany invading Russia
Britain holding out against the Germans in the Battle of Britain
Hitler taking lots of drugs and his mind being clouded
Bombing of Pearl Harbour and the USA entering the war

etc etc.

Don't diss the French.

Dunno what you're talking about...

Blizzard charging £15 or whatever for a mount.
Blizzard charging to change faction or appearance even though other games have them as features.

SOE with station exchange or their free games charging for the tiniest bit of freedom or content.
SOE with TCG and that's the only new content going into SWG.

etc etc.

They're all at it, even Valve are charging like $20 for a hat in TF2.

Fucking pisses me off man.

No one is in it to make good games anymore. There hasn't been a good game since 2004 IMO, they're all made for the lowest common denominator now.

This podcast is pissing me off...

Everyone doesn't want to play new games that try to emulate the old hardcore days because they suck. They're low budget, have poor art, no content and really are crap. You could make any game with that and it sucks....

Not one major big developer with the money to do it has tried creating a hardcore game. Frigging All these new themepark games like WAR, AoC, Lotro etc etc. are all fucking crap and they fail cause noone wants to play them.

It has nothing to do with if they're hardcore or dumbed down... people just want to play a good game.

Cause you can't jump.

It has fucking cat emo races

You're stuck to the ground

There is no content

You can't play it with keyboard and mouse

THE GAME IS FUCKING SHIT

Not cause it's hard, it ain't hard. The game just fucking fucking makes no sense cause it's Japanese and they suck donkey dick at making games these days.

Do you think that if the US was connected via the land to Germany that they wouldn't have been 2 years late for the war?

Good show actually, well worth the listen. The discussion was focussed on the industry and not 60 minutes of

1) Crappy games you've played that nobody cares about
2) How old and cynical you feel

Yes I am a hypocrite.

I'll dis the French if I care to do so, because I've yet to meet a french person who can kick my ass.

I'm glad I don't live in a country where half the workers go on strike because they want a 4 day weekend.

As for all games being crap since 2004; lul Posting 4 times in a row without a response is a cry for help. ;)

Oh, and no one is making you buy stuff from item shops. If you don't like it, and enough people agree with you, they will stop doing it. Because, uh, they won't be making any money. And last time I checked that's why people bother to leave the house every day.

And as to the British, thanks for everything. Y'all have been the greatest allies anyone could hope for. You all are some serious hard-asses in war.

And Darren, I was clearly the one who was right on this podcast, as was Karen whenever she agreed with me. :D

Thanks for listening all of you who do so!

@Genda - Aww, Miffy hasn't had a good "the genre is dead" rant since show 65. He's way past due.

As for the French, anybody who tries to look at their actions WWII while without including WWI and the huge burden France bore on the Western Front as part of the context is going to inevitably end up with flawed confusions.

Still, I like Miffy's logical jump that without France there wouldn't have been the Normandy invasion. So true, yet so off the point, as though storming a fortified beach was somehow better than, say, pulling up in Calais and getting directions to the front.

And Genda, are you trying to cover up that time when Hervé Villechaize kicked your ass? It is a shame that he and Gary Coleman never got to team up in an action adventure. So much muscle in such a little package.

I'm not one to stop enyone heckling the French (or any other nationality, including my own) but I must point out that that French WW2 tanks where very solid and able machines. The German forces had in places sever difficulty with them.

One might argue that the French did not realise the tactical value of the tanks they had and that German tactics was the downfall of them. But then, German tactics at the time where years ahead of the rest of the world.
