Star Citizen Writer's Guide - Audio Version Episode 6

Here is the audio version of the Star Citizen Writer's Guide 6. I hope you enjoy. I'm still finding the extremely long sentences and SC specific vernacular a bit tongue twisting at times. Hopefully, it's not too distracting. Star Citizen - Finishing up Producing Audio Versions of the Writer's Guide

As you can see, I'm back at it, working on audio versions of the official Star Citizen Writer's Guide. I hope it's a nice addition for the SC community but I'm doing it mostly for selfish reasons. Becoming familiar with the available SC lore is drinking for a heated fire hose.

Star Citizen - Keyboard and Mouse vs. Controller vs. HOTAS/Joystick

Deciding which peripheral to use for flight has been my biggest decision. They all have their benefits and drawbacks for different aspects of game play. You don’t have to use the same one for flying, dogfighting, FPS, etc. I definitely won’t be. That said, the only one you can experiment with fully right now is for dogfighting, the bane of someone who’s never played a space simulation game before, much less do it in a combat environment.

There’s new player and there’s NEW PLAYER

Calling myself a noob is space is an understatement in a game like Star Citizen. HA!! I always considered myself a light weight in EVE Online even though I knew quite a bit about my ship and combat mechanics. None of that means shit in Star Citizen. I GROSSLY under estimated the learning curve. I initially shrugged it off as a lot of information to consume no in game assistance. Now that they’ve started integrating a tutorial and that didn’t help one bit, I realize the hill I climbed to become a decent player in EVE will pale in comparison, just learning how to fly my ships in Star Citizen. The SC experience I’m hoping for is the dream imagined by this fan made video turned official trailer. I want to play out being the female version of Mal from Firefly. I want to do salvage, transport or perhaps search...

Catching up with Star Citizen
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 17 June 2015, 7:26 pm
While recovering from abdominal surgery, I decided to catch up on Star Citizen. I haven’t had a full time MMO for a while and there’s nothing that I’m particularly interested in on the near horizon. Seems like a good time to see what’s going on with the development of the next virtual world I plan to call home.

What’s up? Not much. Some Tera: Fate of Arun

Playing Don’t Starve Together, The Sims 4, World of Warcraft and Darkest Dungeon have all slowed down. I’m going to be having what should be minor surgery in a couple of weeks. This has turned my focus to spring cleaning, getting things ready for hand-off at work and organizing my house and bedroom beforehand. Minimally, I’ll be laid up for 4 weeks. 4 weeks convalescing takes planning!

Don't Starve Together: Oh Noes!
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 16 March 2015, 3:13 pm
Work has been super busy the past couple of weeks which has been a good distraction. I’ve also been working out of town which forces me to socialize with people even if I’m not feeling up to it. I’m back home for a couple of days and feeling tired but up for some Don’t Starve Together.

The Reality of Don't Starve Together Co-op Play
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 5 March 2015, 9:02 am
My mood still swings widely between being “okay” and feeling too bereft to do much at all. I canceled all of my subscriptions for now. If I play anything at all, it’s Don’t Starve or Darkest Dungeon. They both offer opportunities for gaming sessions that are fun, have quick options for progression and are just the right amount of detail to take my mind off things.

Don’t Starve: The Road to 100+ Days

Things can be pretty routine in DS after surviving your first couple of winters. With the coming of spring and summer, I spend the time uncover more of the map and improving my home base. I have small outposts in far-flung locations that contain resources that I only need occasionally.

Don’t Starve: Coming up in the World
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 8 February 2015, 7:20 am
I’m still playing the same instance of Don’t Starve. I’ve gone well beyond my initial goal of surviving my first winter. I have multiple winters under my belt and have continued to upgrade my basecamp and my inventory along the way.

Steam Early Access: Darkest Dungeon
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 6 February 2015, 7:59 am
I’ve leapt from the ledge again on Steam, purchasing another game that’s outside of my normal genre. That’s right, I’ve never played a rogue-like game before. Dungeon crawlers aren’t my thing. In fact, I don’t enjoy questing in confined dark spaces. I’m an open world kind of gal. I have a couple of my favorite Twitch streamers to blame. They made Darkest Dungeon look like a lot of fun. So much so, that I wanted to try it myself. And they were right, it’s worth the price of admission. *Smile*

H1Z1 – Loot Update, Temp Posse, Player Griefing
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 6 February 2015, 5:11 am
I’m continuing to play/test SOE’s zombie survival sandbox MMO. Yep, I’m calling it an MMO. It walks like and quacks like one to me. The absence of loot has been fixed but probably a bit too much. While some areas are sparse, many are brimming over with duplicate loot. I’ve still had to search for the more important items such as back packs and finding the right ammo for the right gun. But other than that, I’m seeing what I expected to see. Trash cans with food. Every house has something or other left behind in it.

H1Z1 – Manually Editing Keyboard Controls
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 4 February 2015, 8:00 am
Being in early alpha, the interface to support customized keyboard controls aren’t available in game yet. For people who can’t function with WASD, are left-handed or absolutely must have keybinds that make sense to them, the only way to achieve that at the moment is to modify a user configuration file.

Don’t Starve: Getting Started Guide Part 3 of 3
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 2 February 2015, 8:01 am
Hopefully, by this time you’ve crafted the basic items you need to survive the elements, as well as craft other items. Winter is only a few days away. The focus is now is to begin storing essential materials and selecting a good food source. You don’t have to do anything fancy to make it through the cold days. My first time through it was bare bones, living hand-to-mouth and it worked! You want meat to help keep your stomach full during the winter.

Enhancing Your Game Play If you’re not a purist about your gaming experience, I suggest availing yourself of a few mod and iOS apps. There are a few hundred mods available on the Steam Workshop for both flavors of the game. The ones I’ve suggested below have minimal game impact but improve a few aspects that I find annoying, lacking or improve the fun-factor.

H1Z1: MMO Enough to Me
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 30 January 2015, 8:07 am
There’s no hard and fast definition for massive. I’m not sure it is a raw number anyway. It terms of gaming, I’d suggest it’s fair that the number be compared to the size of the content map. That said, for me to consider a game to be MMO, I need the following:

Don’t Starve: Getting Started Guide Part 1 of 3
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 29 January 2015, 8:00 am
Your objective in Don’t Starve is very clear – stay alive, don’t starve. However, starving is often the least of your worries. You can die in a multitude of ways in DS. Weather, killer animals, poison vegetation and darkness, will all kill you. DS is a sandbox survival game. Think Minecraft meets The Sims minus creative building features.

H1Z1: So Alone
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 28 January 2015, 6:00 am
I’m alone, stranded miles from friends and family that may be alive. I was away at a business conference when the CDC officially declared the outbreak a disaster. This was immediately followed by the President initiating a state of emergency and the FCC stopping all mass transit. Panic, chaos and violence reigned as millions of people succumbed to the H1Z1 virus as if overnight.

Early Access: H1Z1 First Impressions
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 27 January 2015, 1:00 pm
I’ve been stepping outside of my normal gaming routine lately. In my current state of mind, I’m not in the mood for following a lot of rules (quests) and pre-defined routines. I’m winging it and playing more casually. That is how H1Z1 has entered the line-up.

Don’t Starve: OH NO!!
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 26 January 2015, 7:44 am
It was all going to plan. My basecamp was in good shape to survive the few remaining days of winter. My strategy of eating hand to mouth because I lacked an Ice Box was working. Whenever I was hungry, I collected a fresh rabbit from one of my 10 traps and cooked up some vittles.

Casual Gaming: Don’t Starve
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 25 January 2015, 6:00 am
The premise is simple. The execution, not so much. I stumbled across Don’t Starve (DS) and its coop play alternative, Don’t Starve Together (DST), via Twitch.tv. After watching a few streams I wanted to try my own hand at not starving to death. From the outside looking in, it appeared to be The Sims meets Minecraft Survival Mode meets Harvest Moon. Okay y’all, I’m in.

WOW: Where was I?
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 23 January 2015, 9:04 am
My progress in WoD continues although I’m now only focused on getting my Warlock to 100. I was starting to feel too much of the grind attempting to do three characters in parallel. For now, my level 96 Priest and level 94 Mage are permanently parked in their garrisons except for going out to trap animals for fur.

EVE – Exit Faction Warfare
Posted by Home of my personas Saylah and Alysianah [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 22 January 2015, 8:58 am
I recently re-subscribed to EVE Online. It’s that time again. The need for my flavor of sensory deprivation, that floating around in deep space provides. I am once again without a corporation because I wanted out of FW. I’ll be playing much too casually to be a flashing target. Returning with the idea of continuing the grind toward level 4 missions, repairing my standing with the Caldari and dabbling in exploration meant vacating the low security FW home I’d moved to with my former corporation. I was definitely not looking forward to the 19 jumps back to Hek, which is where I like to setup shop when I’m going solo. To make things easier on myself I sold all of the ships I’d purchased and fitted locally for FW. I obviously kept the Viator to transport the rest of my goods. Followed by flying 2 Navy Vexors and the Aries...
