ArcheAge Alpha - Blog or Play?
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 27 October 2014, 12:46 pm
I’m still heavily invested in playing ArcheAge even though I’m not blogging about it as much. The reason for that is very simple. When I have free time it becomes a choice between playing AA or blogging about it. As you can see, playing is winning in most cases. *Smile* The AA game I’ve elected to play, farming and trade, comes with a decent amount of resource management. It’s not a matter of collecting materials and crafting them whenever I have the time or the mood strikes. On the contrary, it requires a consistent commitment to tending livestock, planting/harvesting crops and watching the trade market to know what’s most profitable for crafting into trade packs versus selling the raw materials to other players on the Auction House. Trade pack profitability can change hourly. And while the AH market changes more slowly, you have to watch the trends to get out ahead of them or end up losing profit.

ArcheAge - Getting Started Guide Part 2

Link to Part 1 Here are other questions I see new players ask on a regular basis or things I learned the hard way. Public Regal Stations Some crafting recipes require regal workstations. Typically, these workstations are crafted by players specializing in that profession and placed in their homes. Each faction has one set of public regal workstations available to the general population. For the West Faction, public Regal Workstations are located in Wardton, Solzreed. You’ll see a cluster of houses together with workstations on the porch and some inside. Those are regal workstations you can use.

ArcheAge: Naval Combat Adventure
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 15 October 2014, 8:36 pm
Last night was my first experience doing naval combat in ArcheAge. Lag aside, it was a resounding success and some of the most fun I’ve had in the game to date. A big thanks to the Praetorian guild for organizing the event and inviting The Immortal Imperial Legion.

ArcheAge: Op-Ed - They were not prepared
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 13 October 2014, 4:35 pm
Obviously, everything in this post is my personal opinion based on what I’ve experienced firsthand and have seen with my own eyes or have read about on the official forums and Reddit. Oh Trion, you were not prepared. I think the interest in the Trion published version of ArcheAge greatly outweighed their expectations. Not even the thousands of players who paid $150 dollars to be in the Alpha gave them a sense of the masses waiting in the wings. The hype train gathered steam very quickly, going from zero to Mock 5 in a flash.

ArcheAge - Stop the Madness
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 9 October 2014, 3:45 pm
I’ve been working on a variety of goals since my last post. First and foremost was to start saving gold again. After obtaining a level 50 plate set via questing, I started the expensive process of building up a cloth set. This is not a trivial effort, as each tier builds on the previous one. This means to have a level 50 crafted armor set, you have to start at T1 for each piece and slowly upgrade/craft the next tier.

ArcheAge: Guild Fishing Event
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 6 October 2014, 12:21 pm
On Saturday our guild, The Immortal Imperial Legion, had its first social event. We gathered up and went sports fishing in ArcheAge. There are two types of fishing that can be done in AA. Basic fishing can be done from any body of water using a fishing pole and bait. You can even set it to auto-cast and just stand there collecting fish. Common uses for basic fishing are XP gain and resources (fish) to use in alchemy recipes.

ArcheAge PSA: Property Buyers Beware
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 5 October 2014, 7:18 am
ArcheAge is considered a sandbox MMO and with that comes the freedom to come off the PVE questing rails to do other things in the name of character progression, which includes becoming a pirate or scam artist. For the former to be successful there must be gullible players in the form of sheep.

ArcheAge: Boom 50
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 3 October 2014, 8:24 am
Boom, my main character is level 50 and I'm among the last to hit 50 in our guild. There are a few stragglers behind me but most people that started playing with us during head-start are already at max level.

ArcheAge: Ding, Level 48
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 1 October 2014, 7:43 am
Has it really only been 17 days since the crazy head-start land rush and kick off of QueueAge rage? The time has passed in a blink. And yet, here I sit at level 48. Yawza!

ArcheAge: Another Milestone Reached
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 29 September 2014, 10:25 am
This past weekend I achieved my next in-game goal of owning one of the new Farm Cart vehicles. Whew! It took a concentrated effort to raise the 200 gold needed just to purchase the most expensive of the necessary crafting components, a Thunderstruck log. I ended up emptying my bank of 150G + Workmen’s Compensation potions to meet the asking prices.

ArcheAge Alpha – Guildhall Constructed
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 26 September 2014, 7:00 am
Big WOOT to The Immortal Imperial Legion and all the members who contributed to the huge effort of acquiring and constructing our first shared house - guildhall. The components needed to construct this size house is no simple endeavor. The GH is located in one of my favorite locations in game. A little island between Solzreed and Two Crowns. I'd taken pictures of the island during Alpha with its former inhabitants. Its really lovely at night. We were the first to place a house design here and complete the construction. Unfortunately, our effort to secure the rest of the island for our guild fell a bit short. We have two other un-constructed properties here but riff-raff have also moved into the neighborhood. They are guilds that are known PKers - gank members of our own faction. I've already had a few of them attempt to gank me on my sailing...

ArcheAge - Much to do. So little Time
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 25 September 2014, 11:22 am
I’ve been playing ArcheAge now for almost two weeks. In the last couple of days, the outrageous queues have abated for most people. Thus far the solution has been a combination of Trion performing daily server restarts to rout AFK bots, more servers, additional capacity on existing servers, better AFK detection, aggressive assault campaign on bots and gold spam and more restrictive acceptable AFK conditions. As a Patron, my 3 to 4 hour queue has reduced to 20 to 30 minutes if I log in before primetime NA. Primetime has gone from 5 to 6 hours, down to 1 to 2 hours for Patrons. I sometimes feel as though I’m scurrying all over the place trying to achieve my AA goals while also having fun. My game play experience is precisely what I expected it to be minus the queue drama. And I have no regrets about having purchased the Archeum Founders pack to gain access to alpha and I will be subscribing once the paid subscription time bundled in that package has expired.

ArcheAge - My Journey so Far

Minus the long queue times, most of the irritating launch issues have been resolved. The queue is more stable albeit 1 hour wait at 7:30 AM eastern and upwards of 3 hours starting at 4:40 PM eastern. Being disconnected while in game allows a 5 minute grace period for logging right back in without a wait. A hotfix was applied during live game-play last night to correct the issue people were having where all of their characters were missing from the character select page, leaving them no recourse but to restart the game and re-enter the queue. OUCH! True story, happened to me twice. *sigh*

ArcheAge Land Shortage: Never give up! Never Surrender!
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 18 September 2014, 10:24 am
While the vast majority of property plots in ArcheAge are gone, there is still an opportunity to trip across open spots for 8x8 farms. Six days after the land rush began in head-start, Sarzan was able to find a few open spots in northern Two Crowns. WOOT!! Don’t give up on finding 8x8 farm spots. MANY PEOPLE awkwardly placed 16x16 house designs to hold a location until they’d completed their 16x16 farm quest. As those are swapped out gaps may emerge.

ArcheAge PSA: There are no illegal farms!
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 17 September 2014, 10:47 am
The past few days I've seen a string of players on trail baffled as to what they've done. It's happened so much recently that it became a topic of discussion in guild voice chat. Our opinions ranged from people are lying to avoid guilty convictions or they're plain stupid. Their rap sheet is right there stating all of their crimes.

PSA for New Players With an influx of players coming into ArcheAge who may have little to no experience with the game, I thought I’d do a post for some of the more common questions I see asked in Faction chat. I’ll try to be as concise as possible since it’s a long list.

ArcheAge - FIRST!!
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 15 September 2014, 7:08 pm
Quick happy post after all the weekend drama. Today I completed building one of my two houses. I'm first in my housing province to get their house constructed. It's pretty much all I've been focused on since placing down my farm and securing the location with a design. Every time I had labor available I mined ore under water to avoid the crush, made sure to stay on top of harvesting trees on my farm while doing trade pack chickens on the public farm. I only did questing when I was completely out of labor. I had everything ready to go by this afternoon except for 20 pieces of lumber. Anxious to be done with it in case there was crash/authentication/queue nonsense, I decided to purchase the lumber from the Auction House. 600 stone and 300 pieces of wood later, BAM my first house is finished! My second house is...

ArcheAge - The Agony of Head-Start
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 15 September 2014, 1:19 pm
It Burns Us Precious Well the ArcheAge head start has had more than a few issues. Yes, it’s an MMO so we can expect problems on the first day of access. If leveling was all that was at stake, I don’t think the outrage would be as great. However, if you’ve been following ArcheAge, you know that owning PROPERTY is a huge component in crafting, the economy and your ability to earn gold.

ArcheAge - Almost Home
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 9 September 2014, 2:21 pm
I spent a moderate amount of time in Open Beta trying out pure caster combinations. After much experimentation and trying every permutation that was caster with healing, I landed on Justicar (Occultism, Vitalism and Defense). Necromancer was a close second but was trumped by maintained that ability to more easily swap into Paladin by changing out Occultism for Battlerage.

ArcheAge - Woot, Headstart Sept 12th!!!
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 29 August 2014, 10:55 pm
I'm SO HAPPY we're having a September release of ArcheAge. I'm ready to play for real. Open Beta starts on Thurs Sept 4th. I'll still be on but not playing much now that launch is so very close. Yeah, I know I said that before but I mean it this time. There's zero point in continuing to progress. My character, Alysianah, is on the Alpha server. If anyone tries out OB and there's room on Alpha look me up. Can give you a ship tour, port you to different places, make you some food, etc. Don't let the PVP scare you away from at least trying a really solid fantasy MMO. *Jumping for joy*

ArcheAge: Justice System
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 27 August 2014, 1:48 pm
In a game that supports nonconsensual PVP, it’s good to have a justice system. It may not help you sleep better after being ganked for you hard earned wares. However, reading trial chat is an endless form of amusement. We already have infamous players (Chalupa) and guilds (Darks Ascension) on the Alpha server.

ArcheAge: Under the Sea Treasure Hunting
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 20 August 2014, 12:08 pm
Just a stone’s throw from level 50, I should be saving every copper toward crafting my Conquerors plate armor set. Meh, that behavior sounds much too practical for being in an Alpha! I was processing hide into leather when I noticed the recipe for crafting Bakehan’s Swimfins. Hmm, I thought, I have the expertise points to make those. That jogged my memory about having seen pictures of players wearing dive helmets. A quick search of my metalwork recipes showed that I could craft that too. That’s all she wrote, I was off and running toward a new adventure!

ArcheAge: Taste of World PVP Event
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 22 August 2014, 2:22 pm
I’m level 48 now and figured I might as well get to 50 since the release seems to be a couple of months away at the least. I was hoping that the date posted on Steam for a mid-September would be confirmed by Trion but no such luck. Much too high of a level to pick up where I had previously stopped questing in my early 20s, I rode out to Halcyona to see if there were any quests there worth my time.

ArcheAge - Ding, I’m level 50
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 22 August 2014, 3:32 pm
Wow, that went by in the blink of an eye. I started playing the ArcheAge Alpha on July 20th. I hit the current max level without even trying. That said, I have put in an awful amount of hours. Around level 10 or so, I left the theme park rails behind to strike out on my own and fell in MMO love with AA. I’m very pleased with the outcome. If this weren’t an Alpha, I’d be considering an alt in order to try a pure caster class and experience another racial zone. But since it is, that will have to wait.

ArcheAge: Gear at Level 50

After reviewing the components necessary to upgrade my armor to Conqueror’s and beyond, I decided to use the cloth version gifted to me by our guild leader Fannel. Of the available roles as a Paladin, my preference in a group setting is to heal. In ArcheAge, all classes can wear every armor type. However, cloth provides better stats for healing roles. You can augment your armor with gem slots but you’d still be behind the curve compared to someone in cloth using the exact class build.
