We came. We claimed. We conquered. Albion Online is a Free-to-Play game in its alpha-testing stage which offers a cross-platform sandbox MMO on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS. Think of it as a living world with no NPC vendors, no questlines and no NPCs to report to. Instead you, your guild and your friends decide who owns what: it is an entirely player-driven economy with full-loot hardcore PvP.
Heart of Thorns promises to change how you play Guild Wars 2 in a big way, but here are some of our picks for smaller improvements that would make the game experience a lot better.
Free to play MMOs are in a significant position in the market today, as things have shifted toward a fewer strings attached model over time. First mostly limited to imported, cheaper games funded entirely through cash shops, today' s free to play game may be from a AAA developer or a small, independent one. A new report released last week looks at player retention---how many players continue to play a given game--in free to play MMOs and features some important numbers.
Love is in the air this time of year. Stores are lines with pink and red decorations, flowers poke out in every direction, and romantic gifts are littered across the aisles. In fact, the upcoming holiday Valentine's Day just so happens to be on a Saturday this year.
Star Wars: The Old Republic Producer Bruce Maclean has posted a brand new blog article that lays out the roadmap for 2015. The letter reminds players of the four pillars that SWTOR launched with: combat, exploration, progression and story. As previously announced, 2015 will be focused primarily on bringing more story to players, a process that began with December 2014's Shadow of Revan expansion.
The Skyforge Russian beta is currently underway and a user has posted a video showing off character customization and the initial steps into the game world. We get a first look at the Cryomancer, Paladin and the Priest with more to come as the beta goes on. Check it out and let us know what you think!
Ubisoft has posted the latest patch notes for The Crew. Of particular note is the addition of a new PvP mode in the form of a ten-player elimination race. Players can also expect to see improvements to cooperative missions and the way cars handle in addition to graphical enhancements to stabilize the framerate in cockpit view.
MMOs are inherently about being online in a world or at least a zone with other people playing simultaneously. But just because they're around, doesn't mean you need to always be playing with someone else. At least, that's what the MMOs of the modern era have become. So today's quest, should you choose to accept, is to answer "How often do you group up?"
Content Designers Scott Crawford and Brian Gillmore have posted a new developer blog on the Neverwinter site that gives players both lore and design backgrounds on the Drowned Shore zone (formerly known as "Blackdagger Ruins) that will arrive with Module 6: Elemental Evil.

GameInformer.com is reporting that "multiple sources" are telling them that Bioware's much-hyped Shadow Realms is dead in the water. There are no links to original sources for the rumors nor any word as to whether or not those providing the tips have inside information. What we do know is that little to no information about the darling of last year's Gamescom has come out since that time.
The Elder Scrolls Online team has posted a boatload of screenshots to show off some of the detail work that has been put into both the Redguard and Orc armor sets to give them a more realistic look. The screens show off the overall look with some pretty cool close ups to show the detail-view. Check out the one below before heading to the Elder Scrolls Online site to see the rest.
I have to say I was a bit surprised at how far Gazillion is planning to take the overhaul of Team-Ups. Sure, Team-Ups have flaws that needed to be addressed, but from the looks of it, Gazillion is planning to expand on Team-Ups such that they're almost full-blown characters on their own.
With over twenty million battles, PoxNora has shown big success. To add to the growing popularity, Desert Owl Games has announced that a new expansion is incoming. "Ronin" is primarily a PvE expansion but new PvP action will be included as well alongside fifty new champions.
Aion developers have listened to their community and today's update is the first step in implementing feature adjustments and game improvements based on that feedback. First off the bat are the new "abbeys" where players who have not logged in for 30+ days can catch up on gear upgrades through a series of daily and one-shot events. In addition, the manastone system has undergone a major upgrade.

When your first game as a developer was an incredible hit like Mojang's Minecraft, this means unavoidably a hard life for whatever comes next. While it's almost impossible to live up to expectations, at least you have the benefit of the spotlight. However, you are really out of luck when at the same time one of the industry leaders decides to release a game in the same genre - which happened with Blizzard and Hearthstone. Scrolls was unlucky enough to get overshadowed not only once, but twice.
When someone invites you up to their hotel room, unless you've been sharing drinks at the bar and developed a certain subtle understanding, it's typically a good idea to refuse. When the word "cabal" is uttered in the same proposition, a thrown glass for distraction and immediate sprint for the nearest exit would be the course of wisdom.
Conventions are all about trying new things, and I did just that at PAX South, sampling for the first time two of the hottest new pieces of tech - software and hardware - that gamers are drooling over: Elite: Dangerous and the Oculus Rift.
This past weekend, several members of BioWare Austin descended upon San Antonio for PAX South in the latest Star Wars: The Old Republic Cantina Tour stop. In it, guests were treated to the usual Q&A interspersed with prizes for correctly answering trivia questions. Unusually, the event was actually held on-site at PAX and required a badge although it wasn't a part of official programming.
The iOS port of Kings Road brings this action RPG game to the mobile platform. It is marginally an MMO as there is a town square, guild functions and group play. A linear game, skills and features (blacksmith, alchemist, banker) open up as you play as well as getting spammed with items to buy every time you set foot in town - which is at log-in and at quest completion.
